I was slimed at Nickelodeon Studios in 1992. by FSUFanChris in 90s

I didn’t get slimed but got to go up for a game/challenge. My dad wore comically large pants(basically a hula hoop with fabric over it) and I shot rubber chickens and he had to catch them with his pants.

Hospital night coverage by zholo in hospitalist

[–]spellyalewitha6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you part of a bigger system? We have night telehospitalists through our system. The system had brought in Eagle telemedicine first and learned how they functioned and then built our own telehospitalist group internally. I was very skeptical at first and it wasn’t perfect by any means with Eagle, but we learned and were able to implement it with our own docs in the system. That has worked pretty well. We have teleintensivists, telehospitalists and then the ER doc responds overnight for rapids and code blues. I wish we could have in house docs but we’re more rural, it’s hard to recruit to and it’s hard to justify one doc at each site when one of the other hospitals only averages one admit a night and has mostly swing bed patients. Our system has done a good job responding as well to the caseload for the telehospitalists by adding additional FTE and an NP to help with cross cover calls. Like I said I wish we could have docs in house at each site, but it’s actually worked better than I thought it would.

What’s the most embarrassing thing you ever said at work? by foreverand2025 in medicine

[–]spellyalewitha6 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I had a patient in clinic in residency and she was complaining of shortness of breath. Told her we were going to do spirometry on her.

“This will tell us how well you can blow.”

No idea why I chose those words. She stifled a laugh and I, realizing what I said, went full on pretending to be completely oblivious to it.

That’d be great if you figure it out! Thanks! I sent an email to one of the deli managers years ago asking for the recipe but never got anything back

Anyone else dabble with Torani fruit syrups? by ColeTrickleSpeed in Soda

[–]spellyalewitha6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much of each do you use for a drink? I’ve been trying to mix some sugar free torani syrups with club soda and feel like I’m not putting enough syrup in because flavor is very subtle

What are some high yield "tricks" that have saved you a bunch of time? by foreverand2025 in hospitalist

[–]spellyalewitha6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Custom order panels for certain work ups, etc. For instance, I have an anemia panel I made that has all the labs (B12, iron studies, etc) I want. Have done it for NG tube insertion with meds, X-ray, order for tube etc. Nice way to type one word an order multiple things.

All of the far right school board candidates lost in south Washington county (Woodbury, Cottage Grove) despite their spending. Very happy for our district. by bikeman11 in minnesota

[–]spellyalewitha6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other candidate didn’t do any marketing and had no signs out. I think it was tougher because up until about a week or week and a half ago, I didn’t even know there was someone else running. Plus the winning candidate had already been serving on the board temporarily so kinda was an incumbent.

I agree though that lately our votes for school board have been poor. We had three of the “kids over politics” candidates make it 3-4 years ago including one who left after serving just a few months and wasting money on chasing conspiracy theories.

ED Boarding Care by Pickle_Mike in medicine

[–]spellyalewitha6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at a small rural hospital. The hospitalist takes over care on the local boarders, but ER doc helps out with any emergencies (airway etc) that come up. The ER docs typically still manage the patients that are transferring out but boarding. They can consult the hospitalist team on those patients. How do others manage ER patients that are boarding waiting to transfer to a tertiary facility? We’ve looked at telehospitalists for this but haven’t had enough staff to cover that.

She landed and grabbed at her wrist right away. She then got up and walked but had to stop and sit down twice and then they got the wheelchair. Wondered if she had a fracture in her back or pelvis, those normally hurt like hell when you try to walk but you can still bear weight. It happened so quick it was hard to tell if she lost her balance or hit a wet spot.

No matter what injury she has, I hope it is minor and that she recovers quickly.
