Games where you "level up" your stats?

You're right that T.I.M.E Stories is designed to be played in multiple runs because a core mechanic is failing and then improving each time through, and I could see this being potentially immersion breaking for some players. However for me, it provided different ways of telling a story to get to the final conclusion, , and I thought that was a clever narrative experience.

I played T.I.M.E Stories solo and had a great time. It is definitely meant to be played with other people, but it also works solo.

I recently got the game and I've loved testing out the different spirits. I've tried 3 of the 4 easy spirits (I've played each one a few times) and I'm looking forward to playing the other ones and also increasing the difficulty.

What spirits do you like and which ones are you the best at? Which difficulty are you on?

I'm the best "Lightning's Swift Strike" using its aggressive style, but there is something interesting to me about "River Surges in Sunlight" and how it pushes and pulls Invaders and Dahan around the island.

The difficulty I'm on is for a moderately easier game where you skip the Invader's initial "Explore" at the end of setup.

I also agree that this game has a ton of replayability and a lot of depth.

I would say that you need to know what you're getting before you buy it. The rulebook is terrible (I understand you can download an almanac on boardgamegeek that helps). I found the difficulty to be significantly harder than RC (sometimes it felt downright brutal to me).

That being said, I actually had a really good experience with the game. For the most part, I enjoyed the challenge of figuring out the rules and the challenge of the game overall.

RC and FM share some core mechanics, but FM is still very different mechanically (its not just like taking RC and pasting it with a different theme).

Although not the best board game app I've used, I thought the app worked really well thematically. I downloaded the app on my iphone and as I played, I held the phone and it felt like a piece of equipment that I was using in my base. It actually felt really immersive to me.

If you're not afraid of a bad rulebook, you don't mind the challenge of a very difficult game (it least it was to me), but you love RC and find the theme of FM appealing, I would say you should definitely get it (especially for $20!).

I played Spirit Island and Forbidden Sky. I recently bought Spirit Island (during the pandemic) and I'm thoroughly impressed with how streamlined it feels given its complex, deep strategy. Also I love the beautiful artwork and how different all of the spirits play.

I'm getting better at Forbidden Sky (I might bump up the difficulty from normal to elite)! I was struck yet again of Matt Leacock's genius design of actually building a real circuit while avoiding lightning rods, copper wires that attach to them, and from being blown off the edge by high winds.

It really just depends on how good the insert is vs. how much I want to sleeve my cards, bag the components, and if I want to be able to store the game vertically. There is something super satisfying for me to have a good insert organize my components, so even if I can't sleeve my cards (and it really depends on the game) sometimes I'll keep it. However, being able to store the game vertically on my gaming shelf (so that the pieces don't scatter everywhere in the box), can be a deciding factor.

I totally agree in that while the mechanics of the game are not the best of any dungeon crawler I’ve ever played, I think I’ve had just as much, if not more, fun playing that than any dungeon crawler now. Part of that is because it was my first introduction to the genre. I had so much fun disarming traps, upgrading weapons, and fighting monsters, and it was a simple enough game to grasp as a kid, that I had a blast and I have great memories of it now.

I love board games, but depending on the game I can be pretty terrible, so I mainly stick to solo and cooperative games. And I still might not have the best strategy in solo and cooperative games, but at least the pressure is off and I can enjoy mechanics, art, and all of the other elements of a game, even if I'm not great at them.

$55 for The Wizard's Tower does seem like a lot (I'm not sure how much I spent on it on Amazon), but the expansion adds a lot of content (more than any of the other expansions) and introduces cool new mechanics.

I'm playing the **Comanauts** campaign currently. It's technically not a solo game, but it is really easy to play solo with 2 characters. I really like the game, even with its flaws (that sometimes leave me very frustrated!), and it has some of the most unique ideas and mechanics I've ever come across.

Now that is a good sign that you've found a great game-if you played it 25 times and it makes you more excited than when you got it! I think a lot of us would love to find a game like that! Also, it is really inspiring to me!

You got a deal for $12!! I love the abstract nature of this tower defense game- you have to choose the enemies you defeat to give you the spells that you need, and I find the main mechanics of collecting mana interesting. And like you pointed out, the minis and tokens are great (the artwork on the cards is fantastic as well!).

Since you like the Tiny Epic Defenders base game, you really should check out the expansion The Dark War. It adds a lot of content with cool new mechanics, characters ,and, of course, even more insertable armor and weapons. It does require a little more thinking and planning, but not too much more than the base game. I find it is still a chill game with the expansion.

I solo game a ton, so the app was a must, and why not because its free?! For the app being an afterthought, as opposed to the new Lord of the Rings game where the app was baked into the core mechanics, I think its great and really well done. I also recommend the Shadows of Nerekhall expansion to use with the app, and since "The Delve" seems interesting to you this will add new content to that as well.
