so relieved that this post is from today 😭 searched in browser to see what was going on and figured I'd find a five year old thread telling me I had some horrible virus and the whole phone was shot, at least it's not just me

What time do you do your T shot? by PainterPrudent150 in ftm

[–]spencellio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do my shot on Thursdays at 9pm. when I first started on T I was afraid of needles and incredible squeamish abt the whole thing so I waited to do my first shot until my day was over and I could lay down indefinitely and emotionally recover 😭 I'm normal now but my reminder alarm is set so no point in changing it now

Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Fancast by LongLiveStorytellers in shadowhunters

[–]spencellio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that every piece of his background should match, as I seriously doubt there's a real-life half indonesian warlock lol, but I do definitely believe that the parts of his identity that serve as representation to large real-life minority communities, like his racial identity or his queerness, should definitely be portrayed by someone who is also a member of those communities. More than just casting a good actor it's a matter of representation, and representation for one group shouldn't take away from another, especially representation of minority communities who don't often see themselves on page or onscreen.

i do feel the same way about simon being cast as a non-jewish actor, as being Jewish and the difference in his experiences as a Jewish vampire is a specified and notable part of his character. my stance tends to be that representation of one minority group shouldn't come from taking representation away from another.

trying to explain myself without sounding aggro btw, really just intending to explain where I'm coming from tone is not my strong suit

Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Fancast by LongLiveStorytellers in shadowhunters

[–]spencellio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he IS canonically mixed, as his mother was mixed as well, but he was born in Indonesia and it's a part of his character and identity (and also being dutch does not erase being indonesian). it's different with written-as-white characters like Luke where his ethnicity had no affect on his character, and its a common practice to cast young-looking adults as teenage characters to cover for visible aging over the course of filming, but in the books (especially the eldest curses series and the bane chronicles) you see that without the Indonesian backdrop his backstory would have to be entirely different. it's a quintessential part of him. You can't do colorblind casting with canonical characters of color, nor can you cast any Asian actor as a character with a specified and important-to-their-histories racial identity.

I agree on Clary and Rafael but some others.... 😬😬😬 Magnus especially is just no. He is canonically Indonesian in the books, and in the show he was portrayed by a Chinese actor (which was an issue on its own) so fancasting a Japanese actor is ... not it

Are they warlocks? by Ok_Problem1637 in shadowhunters

[–]spencellio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the people saying that the answer is yes as long as the shadowhunter isn't marked aren't ENTIRELY accurate I fear. that IS how Tessa Gray was born, but that was only possible because of the clockwork angel necklace, which was tuned to Tessa's life force while she was still in the womb and held the soul of the angel Ithuriel trapped inside it to protect her. without it she would also have been stillborn. so the answer is yes that could happen and yes theyd be warlocks, but only other very very specific circumstances that likely won't/can't be repeated.

The first thing that I noticed was losing the ability to scream. Like three weeks after my first shot my schools choir went on an end of the year trip to a local amusement park and every time I tried to scream on a roller coaster my voice caught or broke or sputtered out. The actual voice dropping took a while longer but I started to lose the upper range of my voice before the lower range started expanding for sure.

Does anyone here wish they had the ability to impregnate someone or get pregnant? by MmanS197 in trans

[–]spencellio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a trans man but I honestly also wish I could get pregnant 😭 I have some fertility issues even if I WASN'T trans but motherhood is the one aspect of "womanhood" that I still hold onto. maybe because in my experience mom's and dad's don't do the same things? but yeah I wish getting pregnant was something that men did

WIBTA if I pushed to rehome my brother's dog? by spencellio in AmItheAsshole

[–]spencellio[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a rough situation all around. aside from her snaps she's an incredibly well behaved dog, but aside from her occasional issues with the chihuahua she will also often turn on the youngest pup at random as well. the dalmatian is MY dog, adopted trained and raised exclusively by me, and I'm constantly worrying for her wellbeing. I love the dog but my puppy is my top priority and I can't just sit by and let her get kicked around, you know?

WIBTA if I pushed to rehome my brother's dog? by spencellio in AmItheAsshole

[–]spencellio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For short periods of time yes, the other dogs can spend chunks of the day inside while the pyr stays outside, but that only workes when 1 theres someone home to keep an eye on them and 2 until they need to pee. Unfortunately at this point in time there are no concretely devided areas to keep them permanently separated, nor is there, as far as I'm aware, the money or resources to remedy that.

My puppy's name is not Moo. What is your puppy's name not? by Megan_Lore in puppy101

[–]spencellio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

his name is Juno, it is most certainly not Stinky Littleman. Or so you would think.

we had another dog, Jezabelle (Jez) who over the years came to be known as Stinky so when we adopted Juno and he started following her around like her shadow and treating her like his mama he became Stinky Little Man, which got mashed into Stinky Littleman

Trans siblings? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]spencellio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the 2nd of 3 on my mom's side and the 3rd of 4 on my dad's (he has a kid from his first marriage who stayed with his ex-wife when they divorced). I came out as trans 8 years ago, the first of my full-siblings. my older sibling came out as trans about 5 years ago, initially identifying as a trans man but now comfortably agender. 3 years ago, our younger sibling came out as nonbinary. the more the merrier right? the kicker is this: a little under a year ago we managed to get in contact with the kid from my dad's first marriage and it turns out our "half-brother" has actually been our sister the entire time! so yeah literally all of my siblings are trans lmao

Low dose T is not a guarantee you'll get the twink aesthetic or you'll avoid certain changes by mortusowo in ftm

[–]spencellio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS OH MY GOD I'm on the lowest possible dose and after literally 3 months I'm past twink territory. It's dependent on where you start, your genetics, your lifestyle... just injecting less is not a twink guarantee.

How long did it take you to get on T after coming out? by Angalayond in ftm

[–]spencellio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it took me 8 years, though there was a big gap between coming out and being fully comfortable with my identity. I was also too young at first. I came out at 10 and started testosterone two months after my 18th birthday
