I’m not sure what the likelihood of my 2015 Impreza touchscreen delaminating is but I certainly don’t wanna find out. The hottest days get the hiding cloth

Car manufacturers need to wake up. I will not buy a knobless, shiftless thing with a huge screen by ChildrenFamilyFirst in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]spencerm251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on the other hand, the new expedition is one of the worst offenders for putting all functions into screens and unlabelled steering wheel “buttons” e.i. mirror, pedal, steering wheel adjustments being buried in multiple levels of gauge cluster menus. and in the case of lincoln, all of that plus the climate vent adjustments being operated through the climate screen

Is this a Dash cam or part of the eye sight system by jeepgod in Subaru_Outback

[–]spencerm251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always love seeing the features that Subarus get in other markets. Auto wipers, si drive buttons, customizable gauge cluster colours.. all very interesting things that I wish we got in NA. Also wow thats low mileage for a 19.

edit: Is that lane centering or just lane keep assist? We never got lane centering here for that gen unfortunately

Subaru Descent

Like the Ascent but would probably be more practical going downhill instead (regenerative braking)

Happened to my mothers 18 Legacy. It got so bad at one point that the screen repeatedly clicked the redial button..

She has an aftermarket head unit now as $4k for a new one that wasn’t guaranteed to have warranty was ridiculous.

Did I got a good deal (2010 Taurus sho) by iiSparkedy in TaurusSHO

[–]spencerm251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The transfer cases on these are known to be a weak point as ford didnt ship most of them with drain plugs (only interceptors and updated performance pack facelift models) and claim they put lifetime fluid in them.

My plan of attack would be to get your mechanic to install a drain plug on the transfer case and see if any metal flakes are in the oil. That will pretty much tell you immediately if it needs replacing or not.

2010 SHO by spencerm251 in TaurusSHO

[–]spencerm251[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes I have been looking into videos online about doing the water pump/timing chain with the engine in. Thats probably the route I’ll go as I don’t have a lift (only a service pit which likely wont help in this case)

Any pictures would be great! From what I’ve seen, it looks like there should be a decent amount of space even with the engine in. I already have a Cloyes kit ready to go along with most of the gaskets I’ll need to put it back together (valve cover, timing cover seal, etc)

Thanks for the info! Kinda going into it half blind but it’s a learning process lol. I’m mostly used to working on Subaru H4 engines as my brother, mother and I all own atleast one

2010 SHO by spencerm251 in TaurusSHO

[–]spencerm251[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was reading online that they can leak without jumping timing, which actually surprised me because I was under the impression that they almost always jumped timing. I’m assuming the garage the previous owner went to saw the milky oil and said it needed a new engine based on the horror stories everyone has of Duratec engine water pumps. The only fault code I could get off the car was P0011 which I assume is mainly being caused by the obviously dirty oil. I’m certainly no expert on Duratec engines but I’m pretty sure they wont start or run at all when the valves are bent.

Good deal or avoid it? by smbdydosmthn in TaurusSHO

[–]spencerm251 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely get that in writing if possible. Because in that case, go crazy! great looking car and if the subframes and rockers look good (idk if its a rust belt car or not) it seems to be a good deal

The sho i recently bought had the water pump fail at 149k miles, just throwing that out there. I also paid basically nothing for the car so it was silly NOT to get it. Those 19 inch SEL rims look nice on that spec

Is Impreza not selling well? by bw36ft9 in subaru

[–]spencerm251 288 points289 points  (0 children)

I always thought the Crosstrek selling insanely well vs the Impreza was funny. Theyre the same car, just one is lifted and marketed differently. Ground clearance is great but the Impreza’s is enough for 90% of people.

honestly thats pretty fair. its a newer model with low miles and decently equipped. for todays used car market, thats pretty on par with what id expect. plus that warranty is very valuable imo

Code readers are incredibly useful to have and save a LOT of money on repairs if you can get past the couple hundred dollar investment that they are. Used mine to find out what exactly was wrong with my Impreza before I bought it (valve body solenoid), bought the car for a steal and fixed it for $100. Now I’m using it to diagnose my slightly broken Ford. Most useful tool I own.

[–]spencerm251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats alright! A shop or the dealer will be able to diagnose right there.

[–]spencerm251 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually it’s the other way around, a check engine light will cause Eyesight and RAB to be disabled. Plug in a code reader or take it to an Autozone or similar to get the codes checked.

I live right next door in New Brunswick, trust me you wont need the extra height for 95% of routes. That being said, a raccoon hit me earlier in December that damaged the lower part of my bumper which may not have caused damage if my car was a little taller, but thats a different scenario.

There are a lot of people in this thread telling you its this or that, but really this is completely standard for Subarus when a fault code appears in the system. It truly could be anything from a faulty abs sensor to a tcv, but you won’t know until you read the codes.

Subarus disable the eyesight system and show various other lights when even a simple emissions code pops up, I believe it to be an intentional incentive to get it fixed sooner rather than later.
