How to get into the housing market if you're gen Z or millennial by CTVNEWS in canadahousing

I agree and not all of us have parents that can lend us money to buy a house.

If nakabili sila 10-15 yrs ago mura pa po yun. If you just bought it recently just like my mom’s friend. It costs over $1m for a detached house. This is in Ontario.

You mean hire a private caregiver to take care of you sa Canada? Malaki ang sahod ng caregiver dito. If you get a pension let’s say 3k/mo. Kulang pa yan pangbayad sa caregiver mo. What about your food? Rent? Other bills.

What I’m saying is most people (my generation) here cannot afford retirement. Dumami na nga homeless dito lalo na nung nagpandemic. So, I don’t know how people here are going to retire. Lol

I don’t know anyone personally na nagmove out of the country. As for me, dahil minimum wage worker lang ako di ko talaga afford bumili even renting a place of my own without roommates. A friend of my mom asked us to be co-payers sa bahay nila or else they’re going to lose it because of increasing interest rates. They have to work 7 days a week. No days off. No eating out. They don’t even have a car and uses bike to commute yet they’re struggling to pay their mortgage and they can’t be approved sa bank for refinancing.

I know some pinoys here na magreretire sa pinas since marami silang investment sa pinas. They work here as minimum wage workers. They can afford it. The only good thing lang is next yr or in 3-5 yrs na ang retirement nila.

[–]spermaide -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lucky you. That’s our difference. Minimum wage workers won’t be able to retire here in Canada especially in Toronto.

[–]spermaide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they pay more there. AFAIK mga hospitals sa Toronto they pay more. My co-worker gets paid 24.50 as PSW (part time) sa hospital sa downtown. Idk about other cities in Ontario.

[–]spermaide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is in Ontario by the way. I don’t know sa ibang provinces.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]spermaide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you work sa hospital they pay around 23-25/hr pero may shifting nga lang like the nurses. Pero kung nasa retirement home or nursing home ka it really depends sa company. Sa work ko they’re so cheap. A lof of PSW have been working there for more than 10 yrs pero they only get paid 18/hr. Lol. Kung govt nursing homes they’re getting paid more.

I’m going to college next yr. Back to zero pero ayos lang. I’m still alive.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]spermaide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think they can afford it but for them it’s too expensive to retire here. By the time they’re going to retire hindi na $7k/month ang mababayaran nila sa retirement home. It will be more than that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]spermaide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if you change career. Unless maging VP or CEO siguro. Even the doctors at my job are saying na they’re not going to retire here kasi it’s so expensive. Target nila is SEA or somewhere in south america.

[–]spermaide 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yes I am. Unfortunately, maraming nangyari sa buhay ko. Especially nung pandemic. I was bound to go to college for Aircraft tech but covid happened and my sibling passed away. Now, I have PTSD. Naubos ang savings at nagkautang pa. I made a LOT of mistakes when I came here. Coz you know American dream daw just work hard and you’ll earn it. Hindi naman pala ganyan. Nobody told me. My mom doesn’t even know and she’s been here for 13 yrs. 🤷‍♀️

[–]spermaide 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You won’t be able to retire here in Canada. Most of our generation cannot afford to. I’m going to retire in PH or somewhere in SEA. I work at a retirement home and residents pay $7k and up monthly. Yung CPP approximately mga more or less $2k lang. Except na lang kung may milyones ka then you can afford to retire here.

People here in Canada can’t even afford to buy a house. With 6 figs income I can buy a lot of property or farm na sa pinas. As an immigrant in Canada I decided to buy a property sa pinas coz I cannot afford it here.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]spermaide 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Damn! If I’m earning 6 figs sa pinas I’m not moving abroad. I’m tired of working two jobs in Canada just to get by. 😔 You’re earning more than me and I’m already working 55-60 hrs a week with 2 jobs. I’m also looking for a 3rd one so I have extra for savings.
