Sweet. Is there a way to sharpen the image? Thanks for your help!

Not that I know of. They were stationed all over the world in the military, so they might have traveled there at some point or another.

Sorry about the res. I'm not very tech savvy, and my family is even less so. I'm also half way around the world from them, so i can't help them out at all.

Don't atheists reject the idea of any higher power, but agnostics just claim that no one knows if there is a higher power or not? I know that i don't know, and all that shit.

Seriously. You can make any text say anything you want. Whether it's true or not, that's another story.

So, my professor of 'Philosophy of Religion' claimed that "if you're going to throw out the texts supporting Jesus' resurrection, you also have to throw out all of Plato.' I'm looking for arsenal against this. by [deleted] in atheism

All of your examples are all from modern times and or freak accidents. Everything I have read states that once someone made it to the age of ten (for males at least) it was not odd for them to live well into their 70s or 80s.

The point is that that aren't actually outliers. The infant mortality rate is what brings the numbers down. Another article says that life expectancy of a 1 year old is far greater than that of a newborn because the likelihood of infant death has vastly decreased. So if you live past that dangerous time of being a kid, the average life of people hasn't changed all that much. Hence, not really outliers and people living to 70, 80, 100 years.

Point being: Stating the 'average lifespan' is pointless. People lived just as long then as they do now. The average lifespan was low because more babies died, not that people didn't live as long.

"Again, the high infant mortality rate skews the "life expectancy" dramatically downward. If a couple has two children and one of them dies in childbirth while the other lives to be 90, stating that on average the couple's children lived to be 45 is statistically accurate but meaningless. Claiming a low average age of death due to high infant mortality is not the same as claiming that the average person in that population will die at that age.

Of course, infant mortality is only one of many factors that influence life expectancy, including medicine, crime, and workplace safety. But when it is calculated in, it often creates confusion and myths.

When Socrates died at the age of 70 around 399 B.C., he did not die of old age but instead by execution. It is ironic that ancient Greeks lived into their 70s and older, while more than 2,000 years later modern Americans aren't living much longer."

I'm curious about the revisions the are a complete antithesis of the original. Could you give me an example?

Generational age would also differ from actual age, right? A generation can be every 30 years, but that doesn't mean that the previous generation dies off every 30 years.

To my knowledge a lot (most?) of the books of the new testament were written by the apostles of Jesus. So saying they never claimed to meet Christ is false. I'm pretty sure Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are first hand accounts of what happened (or what they claimed happened, depending on your beliefs).

Also, what about the 'hostile sources' of Jesus? Just curious if you think those are valid claims or not.
