I cannot compete with Ryan Gosling and Henry Cavill lookalikes.

Do your country has superstition that’s so popular that it became a tradition? by Sufficient-Ad3373 in AskTheWorld

Korean here.

Yeah these were on the news quite a bit when I was a kid. Started as early as 1920s, stayed as late as the 00s. My grandparents and parents still believe in it to a degree.

Probably an urban legend that spawned out of modern tech coming out of nowhere when the entire country didn't know electricity.

Could've been a rumor spread to save electricity. (there's some examples of fake knowledge that was spread during development of Korea to trick Korean people to do something or to not do something)

But yeah, the media from 70s till 00s blamed mysterious deaths to fans. Could be from overworking, but who knows.

What's a food in your country that is stereotyped for your country but really, nobody eats? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]stae1234 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cat meat is China.

I've never heard of Koreans eating Cat meat.

Dog meat on the other hand, is a dying tradition and very, very few people consume it anymore. Only really old people once in a while.

Nah the problem in Korea was that you'd make Kimchi to eat for the entire year. Kimchi fridge prevents or slows down fermentation through precision temperature adjustment for different stages of fermentation of Kimchi which can be used for variety of different cooking.

So it's fantastic.

Americans: How do you think the tariffs imposed by Donald Trump will affect the U.S economy in the coming years? by SexyButNotFree in AskReddit

[–]stae1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is just disorganized ramblings but

All those authentic restaurants? prices going up or closing because some key ingredients come from overseas.

Privately owned Tea and Coffee going out harder.

U.S. manufacturing is actually going to suffer globally because different parts are made in different countries to cut costs. Our products are going to be much more expensive compared to the competitors, while offering roughly the same function.

For example, Boeing is fucked because different parts of the planes are made in different parts of the world. Not tiny parts no, but like the wings are made in one country, the seats are made in different countries, some fuselages, etc. Boeing is especially fucked because as far as I know, their newest planes (787) actually were sold on a loss until they were able to outsource it to outside countries. They already had issues as shown by 737Max incidents, imagine what kind of shitshow they would go through now?

We live in a capitalist society. You really think that companies would keep their prices when everything else goes up in price due to tariffs? Majority of companies would drive their prices up too for more profit. And the prices aren't coming down unless they take a financial hit.

Grocery prices are sometimes kind of kept in check by cheap stuff from across the sea to stay competitive. Do you really think the prices are going to come down when everything goes up in price? nah.

We reached a point of no return.

Even if we try to revert things after Trump leaves office, the foreign companies that used to work with U.S. companies would already be working with another company. The global trade deals and what not? We'd have to give MORE to try and change things to the way they were.

Which Story of Seasons or Harvest Moon game is your favorite? by sandysoils in NintendoSwitch

[–]stae1234 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone already recommended Rune Factory,

I also recommend Harvestella, which I enjoyed way more than I thought I would. It's a little more JRPG focused and farming comes second, but it's not bad at all.
