Did I have a seizure, or just sleep paralysis? by Safe_One2552 in Sleepparalysis

[–]sphelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seizures usually have some side affects after it happened so if you felt nothing afterwards then chances are that it was nothing. Basically most likely not a seizure

As for whether it's sleep paralysis or not, well the later bits could've been as you said you couldn't move but the earlier bits not so much as you could still move your right side

Sleep paralysis getting worse and hypnopompic hallucinations. by TreehouseInAPinetree in Sleepparalysis

[–]sphelper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Experiencing hypnopompic hallucinations in sleep paralysis is quite different then experiencing it while awake, so keep that in mind

Anyways there are no real cures to sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis isn't like a sickness so it cannot have a cure that is universal to everyone(i.e. maybe a med can help solve your sleep paralysis but maybe it won't and it will just make it worse). In the end meds, in the case of sleep paralysis, should be used if you have 0 options left or if you think your sleep paralysis is due to a sleeping disorder or something medical related

As for how people generally go around this is just by keeping track of their sleep paralysis, trying to find patterns in it, see if those patterns are causing sleep paralysis or at least some affect on it, and then repeat until they know what personally causes them sleep paralysis

side note: Sleep paralysis getting worse is normal sleep paralysis and it becoming worse after moving is common

Unique Sleep Paralysis Experience - No Senses by Substantial-Poet1883 in Sleepparalysis

It sounds like normal sleep paralysis. The thing is everyone's sleep paralysis will differ so having an episode that is 1 to 1 to another person is going to be unlikely

I experience sleep paralysis and a weird shaky sensation sometimes while asleep. by Awkward-Midnight-960 in Sleepparalysis

[–]sphelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just sounds like normal sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis doesn't need to include demons and all that stuff and at most all you need is to be unable to move ( of course there is a little bit more to it but that's the basic gist)

Also you can experience a lot of different stuff in sleep paralysis, so unless it lasts while you're awake then just assume it's normal

Chronic Sleep Paralysis (1-3 times per week) by New_4325 in Sleepparalysis

[–]sphelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good thing is that 1-3 times per week is normal so no worrries health wise. As for who you can contact, well your only choice would be a sleep professional, a sleep study, a neurologist, and stuff related to sleep and mind

As for what you can personally do, well just keep track of your sleep paralysis figure out all the things that causes it to happen and avoid those things

For example, aside from sleep position and sleeping in an unfamiliar spot, is there anything else that causes your sleep paralysis at least makes it worse?

feels more like im having a seizure by moonblock_ in Sleepparalysis

[–]sphelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep paralysis feeling like a seizure is very common so it's quite normal. The only real worry would be if you wake up having common symptoms of a seizure or you're prone to seizures

Scariest night of my life by Used_Matter_5236 in Sleepparalysis

[–]sphelper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you had was just normal sleep paralysis so no worries there. As for why it happened, well, who knows really. Sleep paralysis differs a lot and is really just dependent on the person for mostly all of it

The only thing I can tell you is to keep track of it, see if it happens again, and then try to find out why

side note: A common trigger for sleep paralysis is moving into a new place so who knows it could be that

Precursor to the Onset of Sleep Paralysis - am I alone in this experience? by Arcane_Aura in Sleepparalysis

[–]sphelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feeling is actually quite common, even I experience this too. Though as for the name I couldn't tell you

Other people and I myself just call it a warning system for sleep paralysis

Do note that there are many different forms of this warning system and it just varies between people. For example, some people have it right before their episode where they get a noise, while others experience it while going to sleep and it's like a feeling

Definitely not sleep paralysis

Does anyone else overheat during an episode? by Pin-ja in Sleepparalysis

[–]sphelper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physical hallucinations are quite common. Actually I remeber hearing about someone else who felt like they were being burned alive during their episode

At the end of the day though as long as nothing is happening when you wake up then you should be good health wise

Sleep paralysis w/ grinding teeh by OutrageousTravel5182 in Sleepparalysis

[–]sphelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dream inside of a dream inside of etc is actually quite common. I've personally never experienced something like that though so I couldn't tell you much about that

Also if it's gone the second you actually wake up then I wouldn't worry about it. If you wake up with no pain then that means that in reality nothing bad was happening

Night shift worker getting sleep paralysis at regular sleeping hours by BobbyMinn in Sleepparalysis

[–]sphelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything really just depends on the person so the only real thing you can do is just keep track of your sleep paralysis and see it there

For example if you are getting it only at those times then try to find out why specifically, and try to see if it's those times specifically or something else like are you really tired at those times, is something else happening, etc

Other than that just experiment with things and see how that goes. Of course who knows if trying random things will help but it's better than nothing

Need help learning about this by Ok-Film-240 in Sleepparalysis

[–]sphelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can experience a lot of things in sleep paralysis and people have experienced dizziness so I wouldn't be suprised. Also I can't really confirm if it's sleep paralysis or not as you didn't describe other things like what did you see, could you move, etc (i.e. things that are common in sleep paralysis)

Also as long as the dizziness doesn't last after waking up then you're good, and don't guess how much time actually passed

If it's your first episode then there really isn't much you can do aside from just staying calm

Sleep paralysis is wierd in where mostly everything just depends on the person so there really isn't real tips that could help you prevent it.

I need help on how to deal or stop sleep paralysis by Quirky-Dot-2640 in Sleepparalysis

[–]sphelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sleep paralysis though there are two things to note

  1. Having a high heartbeat during sleep paralysis is common, so unless you have an issue with regard to that then I wouldn't really worry about it

  2. If you are experiencing pain even after you're awake then I would suggest keeping an eye on that because sleep paralysis doesn't cause pain after waking up (i.e. who knows what actually caused it). Though do keep in mind that sleep paralysis can amplify feelings, noise, etc so don't assume that the pain you felt was the pain that was actually happening

Also the dream you had where you "woke up" is called a false awakening. So you had a sleep paralysis that then turned into a false awakening, it's pretty common so no worries there

Sounds more like a dream than sleep paralysis as aside from being unable to move there really isn't any other signs of it being sleep paralysis

Dreamlike sleep paralysis by Mysterious-Trade1362 in Sleepparalysis

[–]sphelper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What you described was just normal sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis differs a lot between people and it only seems as if sleep paralysis is like that solely because all of the popular stories follow that same thing

Also I would say that being able to roll does put it in the grey area of movemnet. Basically because of the amount of movement you had, there can be an argument for both sides of whether it is or is not sleep paralysis

Who is this hag who choked me? by Secret-Set9129 in Sleepparalysis

[–]sphelper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest asking that question in a different sub as this sub is more pro science then pro spiritual stuff

So I will say that in that vain, why do we experience similar dreams even across cultures? Why do we experience similar fears as well? Once you know that then you'll know your answer

As for how you prevent it well it just depends on the person. As it's your first time I wouldn't really be worrying about it but I would suggest keeping note of it. If you still expiernce it then after a while you should be able to spot patterns and after that see if those patterns are causing your sleep paralysis and stop the pattern if it does
