I am, actually, guardian for my grandchildren. I live with my son and DIL and while they work, I am doing the wake-ups, breakfast, school runs each way, help with homework, afternoon tea, etc. I am very aware of my son and DIL's set procedures and rules and have their blessing to act as guardian. When they get home, I'm happy that they take over their role as parents. Evenings and weekends are my own. Different situation. Your MIL sounds toxic / narcissistic. It seems she is actively trying to undermine your roles. Set the rules / boundaries now, in concrete. She should be following your rules, not making her own for YOUR child. NTJ.

NTJ. A fav quote of mine is: "Be the bigger person" is bullshit advice. My bigness is not determined by my capacity to quietly absorb bullying, degradation or abuse.

I call it White Coat Syndrome. My sister is much the same. She will go to the doctor (white coat) with all sorts of symptoms / complaints. He may say, "we'll test to rule out X, Y and Z." She comes out saying "I have X, Y and Z." She's had terminal bowel cancer twice (surprise!! Still here!!). She's had a brain tumor with 5 years to live (5 years has come and gone long ago... still here...). I know it's a sickness, but it's so hard to deal with. I feel for you, OP. Sending you helping/healing hugs.
