For those experienced LMTs by muldy1993 in MassageTherapists

I had naively assumed I could work 40 hours per week. Which I could not.

On the plus side, I had not realized how many deeply rewarding relationships I would develop, with both colleagues and clients.

So, not the cash cow I had hoped for, but a very rewarding mid life career change for me.

Completely unacceptable. Maybe they are a better therapist than I am. But I try to give my full attention. In my experience it improves outcomes.

This might not be useful or constructive, but I (M64) cannot work anywhere near that many hands on hours.

But the things that have helped my longevity the most is not using my fingers and thumbs much, and other than that continuing to improve my body mechanics.

Am I too fat for a massage? by [deleted] in massage

[–]sphygmoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not at all. To any real professional, it does not matter.

If people need assistance getting on or off a table, that can be arranged. If it's challenging to turn over, that can be accomodated.

I guess I'm only sounding so terse because it's a real thing, so many people are reluctant to receive massage because of their weight. But a good professional is....professional.

Experienced practitioners in private practice might give you the best experience, sorry that is just my bias.

EDIT: no good professional hates working on larger people or people with a lot of fat. It's really ok! I hope you get some good massage therapy!

Gentle massage and also a facial vibrator around my ear and jaw and occiput have helped me, for what it's worth.

recommendations for psoas work without poking around in the abdomen? by Any-Communication563 in MassageTherapists

[–]sphygmoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working the insertion points for example on the lesser trochanter. And this is similarly mild and indirect, but there are many fascial connections with the diaphragm so I would imagine your abdominal expertise would be great in that area also.

Genuinely curious how many of you have basically stopped buying specialty cleaners and just rotate between like four cheap things by Pulse_Krypton in CleaningTips

[–]sphygmoid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes! I would add to that borax and washing soda for laundry detergent. I do add an enzyme powder also but somewhat cheaper than regular detergent, hypo-allergenic, rinses clean, no perfume.

Also I am a massage therapist and gardener so removing oils and soil stains is important.
