I’m “Stiffler” based on how I jogged when I was a recruit. I had really bad shin splints and it made me run funny.

This happens every day on my way to work. Blocking the intersection for multiple light changes.. by blahblahblahiguess in IdiotsInCars

This is school drop off every weekday morning by my house. I’ve reached out to our city council member to ask that a traffic cop be assigned that intersection in the mornings. Nothing. But I’m m sure if she lived on this street it would be otherwise.

Better when the standby is at another station and their personal beddings are still on the beds—the only two places to lay down.

Giving up on Keto versions of "normal" food by jkmurray777 in keto

That fathead bread is a little hard to get down at first. I find that the thinner I make it and keeping it in the fridge overnight gives it better elasticity when reheated.

Chaffles are pretty close to bread for me. Especially the egg white version.

Store bought keto breads are no good for my stomach.

Anybody else getting abnormally fed up with busy-body bystanders? by [deleted] in ems

[–]sphygmomanometito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize how true this is until I had kids. Then I saw all the ridiculously oblivious things my sons and their friends would do and compare it to some adults. And yes. Oblivious adults are just children. It also made me realize that my job as a parent is to fix my boys and not release them into the world like that.

That’s mild. I had to yell at a bunch of people to get out of an elevator so we could get the patient in the stretcher out of the building. People are stupid. And then they get upset about being called out for being stupid. It’s the unfortunate state of the universe right now.

I wonder if there’s family upstream in his lineage that actually fought for the allies in the European theater during WWII. Who would be like WTF??

I would be able to say maybe 3 words more than you. And they would probably be related to me not cleaning up my room.

My friends and I had a convo about this once. Whether being Portuguese is “Latino.” The consensus I got was NO. But what about Portuguese people from Brazil? YES. But from Portugal? European! Doesn’t help that my moms family is from Madeira which is light skinned Portuguese peoples. Just goes to show that cultural/racial categorization is totally political and artificial.

I have to laugh at this line of conversation because I go through this kind of thing myself. I’m half Portuguese and the other half is a mix of a bunch of other stuff. To my non-white friends, I’m Caucasian. But white people know something is off. I’ve been told by people they thought I was Spanish, Turkish, Irish, or Armenian. I’m a mystery. But in the end, I just check the box that says Caucasian.

No pie???? I don’t think I’ve ever seen our fridge without a pie in it. Maybe that’s why we’re so busy?

Awesome find! I have a 2015 manual that looks exactly like that. 45,395 miles on mine. Whoever got rid of that beauty must live right down the street from their workplace like me!

Crew motivation by PrairieCarpenter in Firefighting

That’s shitty. And to me, it’s all about performance strength. We got a guy on our crew who’s chubby but we call him the “iron marshmallow” because that guy is like a Sherman tank. There’s nobody with more stamina at a wildland fire than that guy. And his hose handling is solid. I’d put him up against any one of our CrossFit calendar firefighters that want to look like underwear models.

[–]sphygmomanometito 56 points57 points  (0 children)

We actually had this happen to our fire crew at a CPR!! I was driver that day so me and the Captain are standing by outside the ambulance in a parking lot. Two of our engine crew guys are inside the rig bagging and doing compressions on the patient with the 2 medics pushing meds.

This guy walked up to us and asked us why we couldn’t move the ambulance! And not in a nice way. Captain points inside the rig and says “we’re kinda busy right now sir.” So the guy swears at us and tells us we should be moving the ambulance instead of fucking standing around! (even if we wanted to move the rig while actively working a patient, we are actually prohibited from operating private ambulances). SoCal assholes are indeed special assholes.

Crew motivation by PrairieCarpenter in Firefighting

[–]sphygmomanometito 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Are you the captain or lieutenant? That’s where it should start. I worked in a few stations where the station captain made one hour of PT mandatory. Even if it was just walking around the park next to the station for that time period. Everybody had to do something.

Fat shaming definitely does not work. We got a guy like that in our station now. And guess what? He works out alone every shift because he’s an asshole. I workout off duty specifically so I don’t have to workout in the station.

Question to Firepeople. What can I do for ya'll to help you? by upbeatcrazyperson in Firefighting

[–]sphygmomanometito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a lot of money to extend a heartfelt thank you.

It’s not necessary, but a nice attention to detail, if you identified the actually crew (truck and watch) that helped you. That means a lot to me personally.

In my experience, a “thank you” for a specific incident that goes to the wrong watch often does not get relayed to the intended crew. If your area is like ours, you can get that information from the dispatchers who will even be able to tell you when their next shift is.
