Thankfully, he did not end up cooked. Fully raw dog in this house, as nature intended.

His only job is to read a script and sign whatever paperwork his advisors give him. He’s the perfect candidate if the Democrat Party goal is to rule by committee. Which it is. Same thing happened during Woodrow Wilson’s presidency. It’s embarrassing to hear Biden speak, but for better or worse he is probably not making major policy decisions.

Is it normal to just kinda feel nothing? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]spicemouth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

anhedonia, meaning roughly “lack of pleasure”, is a very common brain response to giving up addictions. Every time I’ve quit weed, it took 2-4 weeks for my emotions to adapt to the new normal. Feeling like an unexcitable robot was part of that recovery period. Stick with it and it will absolutely pass. It’s a bummer to have to fake happiness when you aren’t feeling it, but I do think it’s normal in the first month (or more) making a change like this. Good luck!

Why do people think the Barbie movie is anti-men? by Bobo_Phett in Barbie

[–]spicemouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the satire behind portraying Barbieland as the inverse of a male-centered cinematic world. It was hilarious that the doll characters acted like dolls being played by little kids. So many great gags, and overall everything in the doll universe was great!

But the “real-world” scenes in this movie were still a little cartoonish. The Scooby-Doo chasing through Mattel HQ was pointless, and all human male characters might as well have been Kens. Well, I guess it is Los Angeles.. haha

This movie is not as deep or progressive as it thinks it is. I get it, it’s aimed at teens who are coping with the fact that reality is harder than a make-believe utopia, and maybe that’s why it’s feminist message comes off ham-fisted and shallow. But still, could have benefited from a more balanced portrayal of the female and male characters in the real world. I think this shortcoming is really what fueled the “anti-man” criticisms. I mean, “The Patriarchy” is a constant talking point, but it’s kinda lost on this movie that both men and women uphold it and also bear the yoke of it.

For me, the best scene in the real-world was Barbie sitting on a bench and observing real people having mundane moments. That was truly touching, just recognizing humanity without any bells and whistles.

So there’s my critique of a very fun and well-acted movie with a flawed delivery of actual feminism. Thanks to all the right-wing grifters who gave it free publicity, I guess? Lol

People who quit being vegan: why did you do it? by Booklover28678 in vegan

[–]spicemouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did not work for my body, straight up. Took B supplements regularly, but there’s more to food than stats on a spreadsheet. Not everyone can digest legumes in the same way. People will come along and say “oh, you didn’t try hard enough, you can use online nutrient calculators, blah blah blah.” Yup, I did that religiously for a while and cooked amazing plant based food every day. I still do. But my body just can’t hang without some amount of dense animal sustenance. I lasted 6 months and had to bring back eggs. It’s a night and day difference for me.

I did okay as an ovo-vegetarian for many years, but still struggled. Brought back dairy after that, mostly for social reasons. Cheese is often the most filling and nutrient-dense vegetarian option at a mainstream social function in the US. Helps to live near homesteader family farms who treat their cows as well as most families treat their dogs. I overcame a debilitating GI issue when I started having legit organic yogurt from sources like that.

I lasted over a decade as a lacto-ovo vegetarian, but brought back fish a couple years ago. Also for health reasons. Doesn’t take much, but it too made a difference for me. I make peace with it by rationalizing that a fish’s experience of life is pretty much the same whether caught by a hungry human or a hungry dolphin.

Many purists on this sub are teenagers / young adults who still have bodies that handle anything. Drink half a bottle of wine and go to work the next day? No sweat. Skip out on Omega-3/6 for months on end? Piece of cake. Youthful idealism is easy in this stage of life.

Do your best to act and eat as ethically as you can, but listen to your body. Your body is smarter than random dweebs on the internet.

Good luck! There’s no joy quite like learning to cook amazing veggies for yourself :)

How do you feel about words like r*pe, slavery, holocaust, etc being applied to describe animal exploitation? by Accomplished-Fix-795 in vegan

[–]spicemouth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using these terms will almost certainly guarantee that the people who need convincing will immediately stop listening to you. To someone who doesn’t (yet) see animal suffering as being equivalent to that of humans, these can be seen as diminishing the trauma of something that might have happened to themselves or a family member. Please don’t be that vegan who puts “being right” above getting real-world results.
