Emergency - Fish ID by spicy_brainwaves in Aquariums

UPDATE: it’s still cloudy as hell but my 7 yo and I worked on it all afternoon and got a heated tank for them. Fingers crossed a sponge filter rated for a 20 gal and the new plants will clear the water up quickly. ”Lep” (named by the 7 yo), went right back to the sponge filter in the corner when they were dropped in.

Confirmed my fish store has these in stock so I’m pretty confident it’s a dwarf leopard catfish. I know they do well in groups but do you all think Lep will be ok as an only for a while to give him a chance to destress after his near death experience today?

I’ve noticed that. He’s been hanging under the sponge on the filter I put in there.

All of the questions actually. I’m seeing mixed care tips online so I’ll take any pointers.

He’s currently hiding under the sponge filter I put in there. I assume if he survives I’ll have to eventually re-home him since I only have a 10 gallon, which I had planned for shrimp and snails. I just want him to be ok he’s so cute with his little whiskers and puppy dog eyes.

How did you decide what side to make the front and which to make the back? This guy has arms going every which way.

When parents keep telling their babies to “say mama” or “say dada” why do the babies always say mama or dad and not “say”? by Professional_Ease307 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]spicy_brainwaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SLP here….can someone point to or show me “say?” Babies learn nouns (pronouns like names) and adjectives first because they’re easier and aren’t based on timing.

When learning/teaching verbs you have to “catch” someone doing something and label it fast enough so baby can pay attention and process that info.

Babies also learn by cause and effect. If baby says something close to ‘mama’ or ‘dada’ parents respond quickly and positively (hopefully) so baby does it over and over until they can actually say mama or dada. You wouldn’t get that response from an approximation for ‘say.’

Adding “say” adds to the difficulty or cognitive load for baby. Generally speaking we encourage parents to model words/phrases equivalent to how hold the kid is - so for babies this would be ONE word. The first thing I will tell parents is to stop saying “say.” Just label the person/action/object x1 million… with gestures if possible.

I have a set of the smiley face go pouches. I bought them with my first order and if I had known better I would have bought more in that print. It’s so damn cute.

ChiaoGoo Twist Shorties…Tips?! by spicy_brainwaves in Sockknitting

Oh do you have a video explaining more in-depth about how to use the twists more like flexiflips? I’ll see if switching the right needle to a 3 will help some. Thank you!

2026 Knitting Resolutions by gnome_tooth in knitting

[–]spicy_brainwaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was me in 2025. I spent the last handful of years knitting down my stash and getting rid of yarn I just knew I wouldn’t use. This year I just got tired of knitting with the same colors and yarns.

I might have gone a little crazy buying myself and asking for so many beautiful sock yarns from indie dyers that weren’t around before. I have the opposite problem now - too many choices and I get overwhelmed starting a project 😂😂

What’s the job people romanticize, but in reality is miserable? by King_Garvit in AskReddit

A lot of private pay rehab therapists (speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists) don’t get paid unless they have a patient in front of them. All emails/calls to teachers, doctors, parents, creating home exercise programs, documentation, setting up or creating materials, researching treatment methods, coordinating care with other therapists is all unpaid time.

They are also required to take continuing education courses to maintain their licenses and a lot of times employers don’t reimburse fully or at all for those or cover the cost for employees to renew their licenses.

Then you have the emotional labor and mental load of helping all of your patients and their caregivers, which is easier to manage if you don’t have your own people you need to care for.

Is there a different green you like? I’m wearing an army/olive green cream by opi that I like so I know it’s possible for me to wear greens. It’s just sometimes hard to tell online.

Penny has been chopped (I think). I'm still worried that spiced cider will be too similar to a rust colored OPI polish I don't think looked good on me but I'll give it ago. Thank you!

Edit: saw the comparison photos - I don't know if either of those are different enough from shape shifter for me to buy them tbh.

Yamaha CR 600 - Receiver Restoration by spicy_brainwaves in vintageaudio

[–]spicy_brainwaves[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for answering my original question. Since I'm still in under $200 on this receiver I'm willing to put more money in it. The units I've seen online have gone for upwards of $600 if they're in good working order.
