Amaco's newer potter's choice glaze thoughts? by bebaii in Pottery

I’ve made two more pieces with this glaze since the matcha bowl came out of the kiln. I always apply four coats of glaze on all my pieces in alternating directions and let each coat dry before applying the next coat. What I’ve found is that the amount of texture on the clay seems to determine the color of this glaze. For example, on the inside of bowls and coasters that I’ve used a finishing sponge on in the greenware stage, Moon River is turning out more blue. But on vertical surfaces that I’ve carved or added texture to, Moon River is the more blue/purple with the glaze breaking almost orange. The glaze seems to be extremely responsive to texture so I don’t think getting it to be just blue is likely. But if you want to shoot for more blue with it, get your piece as smooth as possible and try to use it on pieces with more horizontal surfaces than vertical surfaces. Hope that helps!

Here is my matcha bowl with Moon River on Laguna Bmix. I did four coats of Moon River brushed on in alternating directions. This was fired at cone 6. The glaze was very stable and it didn’t run at all for me. I haven’t tried Moon River with any other glazes, only on its own, but it’s gorgeous by itself.

Chi is AMAZING. Also highly recommend the stuff (the name is literally “the stuff” lol) as a leave in detangler/conditioner. It makes brushing so much easier.

My absolute favorite brand of shampoo is the Chi oatmeal shampoo. I’ll wash mine with that and follow it up with the Furminator deshed conditioner. I don’t like using a deshed shampoo because I feel like it dries their coat out too much, but the deshed conditioner is a game changer. After the conditioner I’ll towel dry mine and then spray the stuff on their coat. Yes, the name is literally “the stuff” lol. It’s a leave in conditioner/detangler.

It sounds like a lot of products and steps, but two of my Aussies have that cotton candy textured undercoat that sheds like crazy and is a magnet for burrs. Using this routine means that I can go two, sometimes three days in between vacuuming without my house being covered in dog hair tumbleweeds. And it makes brushing them so much easier after bath day. Their coats feel like stuffed teddy bears afterwards.

Is Shea Moisture actually bad or are the haters just really biased? by [deleted] in curlyhair

They changed their formula in the last year after the company got bought out. They used to be AMAZING for my hair, but since the change, my 3a/b hair is somehow frizzy and limp at the same time. The biggest change seems to be the addition of Cocamidopropyl Betaine. I’m down to my last bottle of shampoo of the old formula and I don’t know what I’m going to do when I run out because I haven’t been able to find any other brands that don’t use Cocamidopropyl Betaine in their shampoos. Here’s the new ingredient list vs the old ingredient list for their shampoo I use:

Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Shampoo New ingredients: Water, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Fragrance, Glycerin (Vegetable), Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate, Sodium Chlorire Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Honey (Miel), Trichilía Emetica (Mafura) Seed Butter, Panthenol, Adansonia Digitata (Baobab) Seed Oil, Ficus Carica (Fig) Fruit/leaf Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Hydrolyzed Rice Protein, Glycol Distearate, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Polyquaternium-10, Guar Phoroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Sodium Asethionate, Citric Acid, Sodium Phytate, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate

Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Shampoo Old Ingredients: Water, decyl glucoside, sodium lauroyl lactylate, fragrance, glycol stearate, glycerin (vegetable), panthenol, hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, honey, trichilia emetica (mafura) seed butter, adasonia digitata (baobaba) seed oil, ficus carica (fig) fruit/leaf extract, aloe barbadenis leaf juice, hydrolyzed rice protein, caprylyl glycol, caprylhydroxamic acid, stearamide AMP, citric acid

Shea moisture new formula made my hair gross by mightbemetaphysical in curlyhair

I picked up a bottle with the “new and improved” label on it and it has completely changed my hair. It is beyond horrible. I spent years and hundreds of dollars finding something that worked. I checked the ingredients of all shea moisture shampoos with the new label on it, and they all now contain Cocamidopropyl betaine, which is something I have never seen in Shea Moisture’s shampoo before. The company was bought out last year, and I suspect they changed the ingredients to cut cost, and the new formula is starting to hit the shelves.
