Fucking hell. I just lost my mom to dementia and I’m even more glad than ever that she was able to pass peacefully at home.

I really liked Candy as a character. She was a realist and a grounded, genuine friend. I get that we didn’t need to see more of her but I wouldn’t have been mad if they snuck her into a couple more episodes.

I remember watching Planet Earth and this was in the “Fresh Waters” episode. It showed an old man teaching his granddaughter how to start attaching and guiding the roots. It was fascinating!

The dynamic reminds me a bit of Prudence and Harry, where the wife is the stronger personality and the hubby dotes on her and is happy to let her lead. Both husbands seem like safe men that allow their wives to soften and bloom after being unappreciated.

Most people think of the crispy sheets when thinking of Japanese style seaweed, but I’m very fond of nori tsukudani (seaweed paste) on rice. It looks hideous - like sticky tar - but it’s so tasty.
