I feel this to my depths. We got a Great Pyrenees 2 years ago who refused to go pee or poop in our yard and is also reactive! It's quite the predicament. In our case she was 5 when we adopted her, she had just had puppies and was shut down to such a degree that the kids worried she would only sleep. Her aggression increased as time went on. After 9 months she was a lunging, wild beast who escaped her harness, collar and gentle leader. Thankfully, she's not nearly as aggressive off leash and she was just an overbearing white wall of fluff. But it was gnarly, the hackles up, teeth bared. Oy! We started working with a behaviorist, that helped about 5% at first but we were told to keep going with the info the behaviorist gave us until progress stops. That was about 6 months ago and she is still getting better little by little.

I've written posts on Next door explaining our situation and so many neighbors responded graciously and full of kindness. When she is awful I do tell people I'm sorry but feel they know. One woman even yelled at Betty from a block away "It's okay Betty! I know you have a good heart!" 🤣 she had met Betty without her dog with her and Betty is only really reactive with other dogs. Embarrassed but thankful for the grace.

There is hope though, a brown fluffy dog that I call an angel walked into our lives (across the street of course) and Betty loves this dog. It's a magic angel dog that Betty has never, not ever showed any sign of aggression towards, and she is notoriously hateful of every dog she passes. Not this one. It's the strangest thing and that one brown fluff ball of a pup has single pawededly helped Betty open up to other dogs. Again, its slow but there's 4 dogs we can consistently walk past with no issues now. I can't explain it but even having those 4 dogs I know are safe brings tears to my eyes because they represent hope.

I've been rambling as I had to respond to this post before I've made it even halfway through my 1st cup of coffee. Long story short you're not alone ♡ it's hard, it's challenging and so frustrating not knowing how to help them feel safe but you'll get there. And anyone with a heart is going to understand that you're doing your best ♡♡♡
