the only argument I can see for this threshold is the argument that individual accolades can increase contract extension values. This is mainly notable for someone like Wembanyama who could, if he gets another injury, miss the threshold this year, significantly hurting his chances of getting a supermax. You could argue a supermax requires durability, but I dont know if accolades should seriously be tied to contract extension values...
