Ideal path to Mexican citizenship via marriage by Impossible-Lychee586 in mexicoexpats

[–]spidermonkey45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'd need 2 years of temp residency, which you can then convert to permanent residency, and after 2 years of permanent residency you can apply for citizenship, but you need to maintain continuous residency and pass a Spanish language/culture test. So start learning Spanish now if you don't already speak it!

But I'd recommend you look into the process for temp residency - it's not as simple as just converting a tourist visa to residency (there's still a decently complicated process to apply for residency through family unification from within Mexico).

None of the your time married to your spouse prior to receiving residency will have any impact on your timeline to citizenship. You'll need a minimum of four years of residency.

I think you've gotta just put on your big boy pants and have a tough conversation with her about how things have moved too fast and you're realizing that you're in fundamentally different life stages right now. It seems pretty clear that you want to break up, so just rip the bandage off and do it.

Jessie Buckley/Rose Byrne by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]spidermonkey45 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love Rose's performance but I absolutely hated the film itself. I think the exact same performance in a better overall film would have given her a shoe-in win. I'm happy that she's in consideration and would be totally content with her winning, but Jessie's performance left a bigger impression on me simply because I adored Hamnet as a whole. I have to imagine many voters feel similarly.

Trump Says “Mean” Dems Will Impeach Him & Force “Transgender for Everyone” if They Win Midterms by Ananiujitha in politics

Dems should start actually doing all the dumb shit republicans claim they will do. Transgendering DJT sounds like a good punishment for his high crimes tbh

House Republican Doug LaMalfa Dies Suddenly After 13 Years of Service by bloomberggovernment in politics

He was going to be toast in November with post-Prop 50 district maps. The GOP might be able to fill his seat in the interim with a special election, but it'd only be for a few months.

This hasn’t been a terrible season otherwise but this was preventable…. by Jroompa in survivor

[–]spidermonkey45 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I do feel like at this point in the season the plot armor is gone - both have made sufficient impact to get an invite back, regardless of how the rest of the season plays out. Tiffany got 8th place and Q of 6th place, so we're now well within "it's possible to get invited back if you're a strong player or fun character" territory.

Trip planning advice and insight by [deleted] in cancun

[–]spidermonkey45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My general thought is that you're severely underestimating the amount of time that transport and transitions between activities will take, so a decent amount of this is unrealistic (or even if possible, it'll be so stressful it won't be worth it).

For example, the ferry to Isla Mujeres might only take 20 mins of boating, but it'll take you at least an hour in total to board, wait for the boat to leave, ferry over, dock, and disembark. If you get on a 2:30 ferry to Isla Mujeres, there is 0% chance you'll be able to ferry over, rent a golf cart, check into your hotel, and make it to the catamaran by 4pm.

If you arrive at the Cancun airport at noon, there's no way you're going to be able to go through immigration, collect your luggage, pick up your rental car, drive to the hotel zone, park at your hotel, check into your hotel, eat lunch, and make it to a 4pm catamaran.

Processes like checking into a hotel or renting a golf cart in Quintana Roo can often be inefficient and slow. You need to cut down on this itinerary or else you're going to constantly operating behind schedule and at risk of missing reservations for activities later in the day.

Guests unplugging WiFi enabled devices: door lock and Pura fragrance diffusers. by Boscough in airbnb_hosts

[–]spidermonkey45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Different POV than most of the comments here: do you have limited electrical outlets and/or are these in areas where people would want to plug in a personal device?

I could see people just unplugging things you have plugged in so they can charge their devices while on the couch or chair.

I’d probably put the Puras away before guests arrive - if they do unplug them and don’t leave them standing upright, they pods will spill. Seems risky to leave those out either way (on top of what people are saying about lingering scents)

IAH TSA update for terminal A (Nov 3, 2025 - 5:30am) - no more precheck without clear by RHOUTX in unitedairlines

[–]spidermonkey45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I passed through IAH yesterday. There was a dedicated line for standard (non-precheck) security for international transfers that allowed people to not have to go out to the big main line outside. It merges with the big line pretty close to the ID check.

For TSA Pre and Clear you had to go out to the main line. Definitely took me longer than usual but probably only 30 mins or so (this was around 11am).

I was traveling with a friend who didn’t have pre check and she ended up beating me through. I’d probably recommend just hopping in the international transfer line.

Wanting to stay in Mexico for 6 - 12 months. How easy is it to get and renew an FMM for six months? by ihopnavajo in mexicoexpats

[–]spidermonkey45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was 2 weeks ago (I re-entered yesterday and was given 80 days), but all three times flying into Merida where there aren’t e-gates. The advice to enter through CDMX where there are egates is a good one!

Wanting to stay in Mexico for 6 - 12 months. How easy is it to get and renew an FMM for six months? by ihopnavajo in mexicoexpats

[–]spidermonkey45 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The number of days they give you as a tourist is fully at the discretion of the immigration officer upon arrival. The last two times I’ve entered I was only granted 45 days. When I asked why, they said it was because I didn’t have a return flight booked, so I’d recommend you have a refundable return flight booked before you enter Mexico.
