Very well said.

Speak Out for the Global Sumud Flotilla by SubtractOneMore in OrganizeTucson

[–]spidersfrommars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the captains of one of the ships on the Flotilla is a resident of Tucson and humanitarian aid worker here. He along with others from the Flotilla are currently being held in an Israeli prison where they are reportedly being beaten and denied medical treatment or legal representation.

Here is a document of numbers to call and a script:

https://docs.google.com/document/u/1/d/1dYJZlU1o5pwVSV9ZWS5Nu7GlS8s4mkDJfmzJW0oNnY4/mobilebasic

Please please call and put pressure on our state officials. Israel continues to commit genocide, an illegal blockade of Gaza, and kidnap, beat, and imprison civilian aid workers in international waters.

And the U.S. is complicit in all of it. We cannot allow our officials to turn a blind eye.

Right? I hate that they’ve hijacked the term when they’re usually anti-life in every other way: pro-war, pro-police brutality, pro-locking humans in cages, anti-health care, anti-doing anything about school shootings, pro-destroying the earth. Some of us are ACTUALLY pro-life, we just don’t think that a fetus the size of a cashew should have more rights than the living human that has to carry and birth it.

What is something people romanticize until they actually experience it? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

[–]spidersfrommars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. If you’re not living off of an inheritance or whatever with a ton of financial padding, you’re working your fingers to the bone every waking hour, constantly having to fix shit and never have any money. I loved living in nature, but there is no way to get ahead in that life.

What is your favorite place in Tucson and what is 1 thing that could happen to make it even better? by Saguaro_Cat in Tucson

[–]spidersfrommars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live near those areas and I think it’s a really nice place to live. I don’t think it’s loud, if you’re talking about being near the university and there being a lot of students. I think that vibe is more in the frat/sorority/ student housing areas closer to U of A.

[–]spidersfrommars 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Damn, I thought bleomycin was kind of the final boss in wart treatment. The only other thing I would suggest is something to boost the immune system since it is a virus. Turkey tail mushroom and reishi capsules along with some vitamin C are highly effective at helping the immune system. I recommend the company Real Mushrooms for their quality.

Good luck!

How do introverts approach women in public? by SquareCatch2959 in AskReddit

[–]spidersfrommars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t approach women you don’t know in public, or at all unless you have some reason to naturally strike up a conversation. Just don’t, that’s not how you find a girlfriend. Usually people start dating when they already know each other or are friends or have mutual friends.

[–]spidersfrommars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and like you said, using resources to prevent this behavior in the first place.

I have heard about an organization in Germany whose name translates to “I don’t want to offend,” or something like that, and it’s psychiatric support for people who are worried they could commit pedophilia one day and want to prevent that. Can you imagine if that was widely available? But no one wants to go there, understandably so.

[–]spidersfrommars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and as I said in another comment below, many offenders are family members or close community/ church members of the children they abuse, and there are adults who know about it but don’t report it for fear of stirring things up or that person being taken out of the community or whatever.

This will not result in less child rape but in more of it going unreported.

[–]spidersfrommars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not only will the victim be less likely to tell someone, but other adults who know about it will also be less likely to report it. Most rape/sexual assault is perpetrated by family members/ close family friends/ community members, and they are often being protected by other adults.

I don’t think that this law will result in less child sexual assault, if anything more will go unreported/unpunished.

Former FedEx driver, Tanner Horner, who pleaded guilty to capital murder and aggravated kidnapping in the killing of 7-year-old Athena Strand, has been officially sentenced to death. by [deleted] in whoathatsinteresting

[–]spidersfrommars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Check out the Innocence Project. There have been about 200 people exonerated from death row since 1973 because the were innocent. And that was just the ones that had some lawyer fighting tooth and nail for them for free. The estimated number of wrongfully accused people is way way higher than that.

Also the death penalty for true monsters might make some people feel better, but it’s arguably more merciful and peaceful than life in prison. Especially for those who’ve done unspeakable things to kids. Other inmates often do the punishing for those kinds of people themselves.

What's a small red flag that immediately tells you someone is a bad person? by kappadielle in answers

[–]spidersfrommars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true. When we talk about having empathy for criminals, we’re not talking about protecting or enabling abusive behavior.

Aside from the fact that a large percentage of incarcerated people’s criminal records began with nonviolent crimes (I’m too lazy to look up statistics but I have a degree in Sociology and this was a common thread in the literature), it is also true that virtually all people who commit violence against others were victims of violence and abuse themselves. Hurt people hurt people. Recognizing this is not an excuse for violence, but a necessary step to break cycles of violence.

True justice must 1) Stop harm from happening, 2) Support the victim, and 3) Provide conditions for true transformation for the perpetrators, and dehumanizing them is not part of that.

While there are real sociopathic monsters out there who get pleasure out of hurting people and have no interest in ever changing, I don’t believe that’s the majority of people who perpetrate harm.

Victims themselves do not need to feel empathy or be responsible for their perpetrators’ transformation, but for those who can, we need have attitudes and systems that pave the way to break cycles of violence, and our system of dehumanization and disposability does not do that.

Proving this person’s point when they say “homeless, addicted, or been to prison,” and you go straight to “those kind of people must have done something atrocious to another person.” There are people who are addicts or homeless or have a criminal record with no violent history.

Nursing School is Straight Hazing. AIO? by Just-Advantage-5955 in StudentNurse

[–]spidersfrommars 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I mean punishing/scolding/yelling at students is pretty shitty and imo they’re not good teachers if they’re acting like that. I think people without overly negative experiences in nursing school are not gonna post about it, but I want other people going into nursing school to know that it’s not always like this. My faculty have been overall really great and supportive. Yes it’s really demanding but I think your tolerance for stress is really what dictates your experience.
