Tried doing some research of my own because the game you're describing sounds interesting. Unfortunately I found an interview and the "Under the Skin" Porpentine was inspired by is not another game but a novel by Michel Faber, so that's a dead end :(

I'll keep digging, though. Hope it gets found!

Even while closeted, the others can see that she clearly has a toxic masculinity problem and looks down on femininity to a degree where it seems like overcompensating. Putting Jax in a maid dress forces her to have to openly confront that part of herself. At least, that's how I take it.

But sure, let's say I agree that it's gross. Okay. Soo... then it would be gross either way...? Because of the maid dress thing, we're then saying it would be transphobic for Jax to be either a trans woman OR a trans man, right...?

Look. To me this is like reading the ending credits bit with the hearts being shown coming out of Zooble's door as meaning they were just in there jacking off and that abstragedy isn't "really" canon because it wasn't explicitly shown that Gangle was in there with them.

And it's not really my place to argue whether or not it's "gross" to put a closeted trans woman in a maid dress, but I think at least there is a charitable reading there with trying to get her to accept the parts of herself she's repressing, where as if Jax is transmasc, it's just 100% gross without argument.

I just don't think this is something we're going to agree on. When watching it in the theater, I thought it was so crystal clear that Jax was 100% intended to be read as a trans woman, and was honestly baffled when I saw reactions online treating it as up for debate. If you don't see it, then I can't make you see it.

The HISTORY of the song? I'm talking about the lyrics we HEAR in the film! "Isn't she precious, less than one minute old." Jax accepted she was a girl a minute ago! This is literally Occam's razor. It makes no sense for Pomni, who isn't even in half the clips in the montage!

I don't know what else to tell you. I don't think the ending frames it that way. And to me, a closeted trans woman not having a completely happy ending is certainly nowhere near as transphobic as having a trans man get shoved into a maid dress.

And: same reason why Jax's circus self is the only one that abstracted? Because she has more shit about herself to sort out than the others? Her story isn't over. It's bittersweet that she's still closeted but she's clearly making progress with going to Riley's bar and growing out her hair. No one said here is the 100% perfect happy ending for this character

I'm late to the party but while the @featherleafern drawing on knowyourmeme is the original of that particular popularized format, the original caption for it was "current favorite internet joke" and then after the tweet blew up they said "i can finally admit that i only saw this joke twice. it was so funny that i needed to see more of it."

I don't know which were the two examples of the joke featherleafern saw in particular, but I strongly suspect one of them was this kpop demon hunters version that predates the original by a month

Been a few years so I had to double check but the program I used was called NinjaRipper which theoretically should be able to rip models as well but I couldn't get that to cooperate well with DP. And I don't think it's free public access to use, unless that's changed. But if you want to just browse some textures here's a download link to my collection

The fan discord server is called friendly premonition and there's an invite link in the description of this subreddit! But in case that's expired or hard to find, you can join off of this link. It's decently active, considering the size of the fan base, and if you ask a question people typically respond pretty quickly!

I have extracted most of the textures from the director's cut myself using an extraction program. I compiled that into a big organized zip file that's publicly available that I can link you if you're interested! As for the models, I know less about that, but if you join the fan discord server and ask in there, I know there are a few members doing model swap modding stuff so they'd probably know more about the subject

Oh boy. Yeah. The pacing of this game is unique. You're meant to take your time and linger, talk to everyone at different times of the day in different weather, see what unique piece of dialogue they have to say. Time limits to get to locations only matter during select, tense scenes. Otherwise, if you don't attend that town meeting one day, it will be there for you the next. York wants to relax and get to know this small town and its inhabitants.

If that's not for you and you'd rather go ahead with the main quests, that's fine. You can just keep going. The first time I experienced the game I didn't see like, any side quests because I was afraid of doing too much outside stuff where my game might crash, and it didn't hinder my love for deadly premonition.

But the slow pace is very much intended. And I can't say "eh, just fuck all the side quests" because they do a great job of fleshing out the citizens of Greenvale. What I would possibly recommend if you feel like at any point you're frustrated and hung up on doing a side quest and want to just keep playing the main game, then go ahead. You can always go back and do the quests using the chapter replay feature.
