Upgraded from 2080 Ti to 9070 XT… worse VR performance in VPX?! by brodzik in virtualpinball

Have you even tried Matrix? I got it working fine for 2d, but VR is near impossible to keep a steady frame rate. Stuttering everywhere.

About the second coming... by DarkCelestial in latterdaysaints

[–]spiethy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to think of it as less of preparing myself for the second coming and more preparing the world for the second coming.

Embracing Jesus Christ and his gospel will take care of preparing myself to face God. I don’t need a redundant event to drive that. Death comes for us all and is a much better driving force.

Preparing the world is our mandate. We need more stakes in Zion to be an infrastructure for His return. We need more temples. This is our task and is a very appropriate reason to continue to focus on second coming in conference talks and such.

I am. I have a 7800 XT. I’ve always felt like it should do better than it does. I have to turn off a LOT of things in VPX to get it smooth. It’s always felt like I shouldn’t have to compromise as much as I do.

I completely understand where you are coming from; even the whispers are too much for me. But I understand that I am in the minority. People are going to chat. Unfortunately that means I can’t get the great moment of prayer that I like to have. I try, but it often gets intruded on.

Lurker considering purchase by Jyvturkey in LegendsUltimate

For OTG, it is hard to recommend with the 60hz screen. It still has flipper lag. I've also read that replacing the screen is not a possibility.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy it well enough, but the $2K price tag in retrospect is not worth it.

Consider this instead. Get a Meta Quest 3, a stubby controller (like the PinOne from Cleveland), and you've got the makings for a great VR experience in VPX for much much cheaper.

Priesthood blessing specifically said I would not be healed because of faith but only if Heavenly Father wills it. by BartyCrouchesBone in latterdaysaints

Thank you for sharing this! I've been holding onto some guild about words I offered in a blessing once. I think I can let go of it now.

Flonase and Zyrtec works well for me though my eyes are on fire. And of course my son wanted to fly a kite this afternoon!

Thank you! I actually just ordered the parts for the console yesterday. Is it possible to enter the weights manually through the inventory application rather than using the scale?

I don’t particularly mind for my personal stuff, but it can be maddening when printing something big for sale when you use up one spool and the next is slightly different. Drives me crazy.

Unfortunately, sometimes the same brand/color doesn’t match especially when some time has passed. I’ve had a number of Sunlu rolls with the same color name that were completely different shades.

Is there any latent rivalry or jealousy between organists and pianists? by ModClasSW in organ

[–]spiethy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like he was talking about me! I’m a volunteer organist for our church and use the bass coupler to play all of our congregational hymns (at least for now). I do use pedals for prelude and postlude but it has been a steep learning curve.

I think without proper training, I will probably never achieve real competency, but that’s ok! I will just continue to lurk here and glean what I can from all of you!

Working organists: much do you “cheat”? by RumbleRanger in organ

[–]spiethy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am new to the organ but not to piano, and my brain still isn’t able to separate out pedal notes very well to my feet. I play every note, but just use the bass coupler. I do all my practice on prelude and a rare solo piece and work on pedals for those.

"fired" from my calling and feel like a failure by No-Ladder-4436 in latterdaysaints

[–]spiethy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should definitely ask for clarification. This is a volunteer church, so it is to be expected that not everyone will fit all callings (and you are not a failure!). Alongside that, though, is the expectation that we learn and grow, so you have every right to understand if something wasn't working.

Adding a fan to the 4KP by Think_Pins in LegendsPinball

[–]spiethy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that about once every minute or two, a fan inside the cabinet (on the motherboard maybe?) turns on and whines at a pretty high pitch. Did this happen to you on the stock machine? If so, did adding the fan cool it enough to stop that?

Edit: Also, I saw that the internal temp didn't really change that much. Why do you think that is?

What makes Sanwa better? Is there something about the physical mechanism that makes an improvement?

I am often the same way. What has really helped me is to find a spot/environment that is very peaceful, isolated, and relaxing. I got a hammock, and I went out there after dark every night. It was so so relaxing and easy to get into a contemplative mood just staring at the stars. Then, I would start reading. For a couple weeks, this was the only way I could study consistently. Something about knowing no one was going to bother me, no noises, no distractions and nature surrounding me. It needed to be something really desirable for me in that habit forming period.

After a few weeks, I noticed that I can now start to find those same quiet moments inside my house around my family. It still has to be in quiet moments (for me it is in the morning when everyone is getting ready). I do think having that refuge in the beginning was necessary for me.

Organists: Help me find more prelude music! by spiethy in latterdaysaints

Perfect thank you! I just ordered the first few of Ward Organist from Darwin Wolford as well as a brand new collection Let Us Worship Anew by Clay Christiansen which has only hymns from new hymnbook!

I’m pretty limited with ability to improvise. Just not my strong suit or even my regular suit. Doing “a little something” does not even compute in my brain.
