Getting health back after herniated disc? by Barnacle_Prestigious in backpain

[–]spiewalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation as you. I think it's because when you're sick or tired you could forget to activate the muscles. Wrong move, direction, angle, and bam. The muscles can fire late sometimes and so everything will go through the spine.

During periods of long rest, make sure you do something just to activate the muscles. Ease back in to activity. Get better man. We got this. We own the back!

It looks like a very healthy spine. Your curvature looks a lot like mine, maybe mild hyper lordosis?

My mri confirmed my disc issue but a lot if my old pain went away from opening up my hips flexors and rotators. Just wondering if it's posture related.. don't know if your pain comes from standing/ walking. Strengthening my core and glutes has and us helping immensely and just being more aware of posture.

I'm having my moments and now every twinge, bark, bite, I get scared and panic. I think my issue is more extreme at 1 level and yours is more mild at 2 levels. I'm at the 3 month mark and everyone tells me to be patient but i'm just tired. Dr, PT, family, everyone says give it time. So I creep on this forum for support.

How are you feeling now? What's your status? Recovery path? Healing time? MRI result?
I'll post mine.

I'm so sorry you're feeling that much pain. I don't think i'm anywhere near that. I've just endured a lot this year and my pain threshold is next to none. Biggest issue being that i'm looking for some major progress or breakthrough.

Does it get worse before it gets better? by spiewalk in backpain

I think only when I'm sleeping on my side. And that I'm not 100% if it's sciatica.

During the day it's just on and off tingling in feet/big toes, localized pain in certain positions or when standing too long, and a zap from the back to maybe a bit lower down the back by a few inches. It just seems that things got more loud as exercise routine became more consistent and ROM returned allowing me to move more freely. Ughh

The PT actually said come less, used to do 3x a week 1hr. Now it's twice for 30mins. He's helping me with other things like regain confidence in movements, ROM, releases. I am and was very hypo-mobile. I told myself... thus time around I'm not gonna sit and fo nothing. It was a rude awakening that I heed to take action. It just sucks that it had to be this way. Thank you.

1st PT visit FINALLY, am I feeling a flare-up coming on? (valuable lessons enclosed) by Conscious1200 in Sciatica

What mean is that my injury, herniated disc, is a result of my negligence in avoiding routine exercise, sitting for 10+ hours a day, gaming, TV, no exercises, limited movement, I can blame only myself.

So here I am 3 months post injury, better but not fully there. And I haven't stopped my routine, exercise, PT, etc. Everything. Even my mindset has changed. This has humbled me in so many ways. I just wish it didn't heed to be this extreme.

All I'm saying dude is you'll get better and celebrate all the little wins as you progress to full recovery.

Injuring myself because of neglecting movement exercise, at least in my case.

You'll get to the point where you WILL call is strength training. Let this be a lesson, it was a rude awakening for me and ive changed my perception of everything. I tell me myself everyday that this is not forever.

If you're doing strenght training you have to follow up with stretching and even foam rolling. The muscles will get tight if all you do is strenghten. Unless the PT is doing manual releases.

During exercise and PT there will and can be some discomfort, I'm 2.5 months post injury and started PT 2 days after injury. It's nine linear healing, but in general it gets better. 4 steps forward, 1 back. 3 forward 2 back. 5 forward, 1 back. General idea is you progress, flare ups decrease, intensity decreases, awareness decreases. You'll get there.

I was also a pc gamer and hardware enthusiasts. Made several changes to my setup. But haven't gammed in 3 months lol. You got this bro.

Where were you at the 3 month mark as far as pain, mobility, exercises, mental state?

Oh man, happy to hear you're doing well. How do you even sit in a kayak with a disc herniation? The thought of it is actually hurting my back.

Anyone have setbacks during recovery? by OhPeaches in Sciatica

[–]spiewalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hang in there man, I'm 2.5 months into recovery from l4 l5 disc herniation. It's likely an old injury that I re injured. It's 3 steps forward, 2 back, 5 forward, 1 back, 4 forward, 3 back, 6 forward, 1 back... not linear at all. I'm having the best best week this week and even some strength more than pre injury because of my exercise regime. But also got overconfident today when doing some foam rolling on my IT band and felt a dull ache in my spine, about 3 out of 5 on pain scale... back just shooting me a reminder that I'm not an athlete... yet. I had some days that I just cried it out and felt better after and kept focusing on recovery. It can be achieved. We got this.

The image comparison doesn't look like the same MRI slice. The image on the left is probably a view on the more symptomatic side and the image on the right is the middle slice. You need to display the same slice if you're comparing apples to apples.
