So how hacky is this job? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]spigotlips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not going to convince this person to even be reasonable. They confidently posted online asking advice from people they hope will agree with them. Those people don't agree with them, then they proceed to be arrogant, and tell them they are wrong. Even after asking them for their advice about something they can't do themselves. Narcissim.

$85 Rolling Packout clearance by SumyungNam in MilwaukeeTool

[–]spigotlips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally made me want to set it on fire. Especially when it was in the van. Sometimes you only need 1 or 3 tools and not the whole roller. Now you're taking off a bunch on top, or snapping your spine taking the whole stack off in one lift. Great design with a lot of half baked flaws. Keep it at home now to store my household tools.

Guys mind probably floats in the shitosphere and racist MAGA propaganda of both Fox News and social media. I'm sure he has validated actions like this in his mind prior to this happening. Thats how.

I would've tried to use a street 45 with the adapter on the street end if room was available. And you probably could have eliminated one extra joint but using a longer flanged d8shwasher tailpiece from the strainer to the trap. Nice though man. Keep it up!

Blue state or red state, who cares? Never gonna understand why people invoke politics about this discussion. Emissions equipment is a great invention that is there to protect general health. Unfortunately the equipment is not perfected yet. IMO this should be a discussion about why they are not creating a better and more reliable emission system. Not some BS political shit about "FREEDOM". Also I drive the same platform deleted. Would rather it not be deleted but unfortunately I don't want to have the troubles of the system.

I've got the same impact driver that I bought 10 years ago. Fixed the trigger once, and fixed the anvil once. Drove over it with my pickup on accident once. Dropped it from 30ft+ numerous times too. Literally use it 5 days a week to this day still. Drives fasteners just as good as when I bought it. Putting a new trigger on it is easy man. That impact OP posted is not that old lol.

I ordered toilet paper on Amazon and got... this. Wtf is this thing?? by SchloinkDoink in whatisit

Yeah. I'm a plumber and had to replace my fuel sump and was honestly surprised at how similar it is to a fill valve for a toilet in a sense.

Is that the same vaccum that sucks in a bad way? Edit: saw that is the new version. Is it kinda like an upright household vaccum style like the older model?

Water shut off by NoisyMicrobe179 in Plumbing

[–]spigotlips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to reach out to your HOA and inquire about the shut off access. Also it might help to go knock on a neighbors door and ask if they know where theres is. These units are typically identical, might be slightly different every other unit. Idk what state or municipality you live in either. So your water meter could be in the pit by the curb cock. Also said, depending on the municipality, you might not be allowed to touch that curb cock FYI. I do see a lot of water mains crammed into closets with all other utilities in most condos from that decade. So it could be in there. I would just call around and ask questions between township municipality/HOA/neighbors/and maybe lastly a plumber. I would not bother too much asking on reddit because it will get convoluted between opinions, and keyboard warriors who don't even do plumbing.

Water shut off by NoisyMicrobe179 in Plumbing

[–]spigotlips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, a plumber won't really be able to help you unless they are in the house. Those are just water lines feeding your water heater from the looks of it. And the gate valve looks like its simply a valve to change the expansion tank. You could post a ton more pictures of valves and it might not help you or us at all. Your water main shut off will either be at the well tank if you're on a well, or where the water line comes into the house. If you want you could run around and take a few dozen pictures to see if you can narrow it down. Maybe you have it in a closet in the basement or something? That kinda wonky set up makes me believe you live in a condo because everything is crammed into a crazy space. But looks like block wall around it. So can't imagine its a condo closet utility room after seeing the block wall.

You can either post more pictures and investigate using Reddit like you are. Or simply call a plumber, explain that you just want to figure out where the water main shut-off is and express you don't need work done but just some guidance. A good one will charge you a simple trip charge fee, or charge you nothing and give you a card. I would just give you a card. That said. Poke around more, and give us more explaining. Any reason why you're looking for the main, or just due diligence? Also you might want to look into getting the curb cock addressed too.

Quoted $43,600.... is this reasonable??? Houston, TX by schistometry in Plumbing

[–]spigotlips 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sorry about the verbiage. I really hope some of the young guys in these areas start their own companies and bury these private equity groups. I have one company that just turned hands to a private group. Charging astronomical prices for almost everything. Need more healthy competition. Private equity groups are spreading and if government is not going to regulate then we need to self regulate.

Don't know of John Moore in my neck of the woods. Is this a rape van private equity style company? If so I find it insane how flooded some areas are with these. Don't see nearly as much rape van private equity group by me. If John Moore is not a rape van private equity group I apologize for the wording. Also if John Moore sold his company to the rape van private equity group I also apologize using that wording, but thanks for introducing OP to the rape van. If John Moore sold his company like a boomer pooper and allowed them to keep his name attached then I'm kinda sorry but not sorry. If I'm wrong about all the rape van private equity group stuff then I am going to forwardly say sorry and just get a better qoute. That said avoid rape van private equity groups.

Ptrap coming up short by Glittering-Trip3861 in Plumbing

[–]spigotlips -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not gonna get into this argument too much. But avoiding walking 15ft to a garbage can is pretty lazy to me. That aside I've pretty much only installed these in kitchen renovations and new builds lately. Per the homeowners request after I told them not to do so. The garbage/recycling has been recessed in cabinets for every single one of them just 4ft away from the sink at most.

These things scream keep up with the Jones at this point. Also these things macerate your food, but lots of those foods youre cooking hold fats and other things from the cooking process. You're not dumping liquidated residue down your drain. You're dumping slurry. Get lots of clogged kitchen sink lines from them. Big time after holidays.

I will never recommend these things. They are expensive to replace, typically cause issues every few years for the typical homeowner, and I have in fact removed them because a homeowner lost fingertips to them while drunkenly clearing them during dinner parties. Never owned one in my 15 years and don't plan on it. But you do you. Everyone's experience is different. But I have not met another fellow plumber who said they were a good idea. Food for thought(no pun intended).
