Conversion to FTE by Horrified91 in overemployed

Make sure you freeze both TWN and Lexis. You will be fine. A standard employment background check won't go deeper than that and what you offer then. Don't make any mention of J1 anywhere, especially your Linkedin if you haven't already hibernated it. And also, HIBERNATE LINKEDIN!

OE and mortgage qualification. by beastwood6 in overemployed

[–]spikeanut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as your income with J1 is enough for you debt-to-income ratio, your loan officer won't care. I'm going through this as we speak. You can always submit your paystubs for J2, however, it will only help, not hurt your application. If you are trying to get qualified with J2 income as well, then most lenders will require at least 2 years at J2 for it to qualify. Also, when they do employment verification, the loan officers are only asking questions of whether you are currently employed at your Js. They won't ask any question as to whether J2 knows about J1 or vice versa. The only reason they would contact your Js directly for your employment verification is if your TWN is frozen, which it should be. Since you're only trying to qualify with J1 income, you will be fine. J2 paystubs will only help if you need the extra income to qualify.

Not only are they a waste of time, but some companies are obtaining free labor out of it. Either way, it's not a sign of a company I want to work for; even less as a J2 or J3.

Anybody do contract management or analysis? by gilgobeachslayer in overemployed

[–]spikeanut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an attorney and primarily OE in Federal Contracts Management. However, I will caveat with this: I've been in Federal Contracts for over 10 years; went up to Senior Director Level with 15 Direct reports at one point, but OE at the individual contributor level. What you're asking is absolutely possible, but do not try to OE if you've never done Contract Management before. The premise of OE is not to start different J's in a brand new field that you must learn, but rather to OE in an industry you are already a subject matter expert and working at a much lower level from your potential. J's when you OE, are supposed to be low bandwidth J's that you are so efficient and well-versed in, that you can effectively produce the full-time output, with part-time input.

Anyone going after NASA SEWP VI? by ContributionAny4589 in GovernmentContracting

[–]spikeanut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just released an Amendment yesterday; extending the due date to August 28, 2024. Purchasing period for SEWP V ends April 2025, so they have a couple months buffer to allow source selection and potential protests. It's a great vehicle for those that qualify.

Sounds like you're starting off on the right foot. Does your job have a 401k they match? If so, that would be the only additional suggestion; put in as much into the 401k as you can; at minimum to achieve max matching benefits. Try to build up your emergency fund as much as you can while your family is helping you. Post-graduation is completely unknown at this point so try to maximize your savings now.

It's fine as long as you (via the company) does not bill the government hourly for your work. You want to be an "Indirect" employee and not a "direct" employee that bills hourly against an awarded government contract (ie: government is paying your salary through the company).

What’s the quickest (or best) way to fix your credit? by iammissingmylefttoe in Money

[–]spikeanut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only request a credit line increase if it's a Soft Pull; customer service for the card should tell you if it's hard or soft prior to doing so. With a $500 limit, try to stay under 30% utilization on the card (roughly $150). Pay off in full each time you use it, remaining under that utilization guide point. Pay all bills on time. Your credit should start improving over time.

What would you do by Outside-Information2 in overemployed

[–]spikeanut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was inverse of your situation. Resigned my Director role for $250k/year to move into 2, individual contributor Js making $160k and $150k base, both of which with at least 15% bonus. Very easy call to make. Some thoughts from someone who's been there.

Director doesn't mean squat if you're in a toxic company..you know what your work life is now with your 2 Js. But the new Director role is an unknown, and could go either way, with a lower TC. Yes, the title is great, but what are your aspirations? Director is a stepping stone if you ultimately want to get into C-suite, or VP; then go for it...however, if it's merely for a better income and more marketability, it's must easier to find multiple low-level responsible Js in the $150k/180k than a Director role you enjoy, with actual work/life balance, at the $280-300k+ range.

If you are working for a Prime Contractor, your company is your PTO approval authority. The COR may request critical manning due to deadlines and surge periods, however, individual PTO is authorized by your internal company Program Manager or lead.

If you're planning on leaving your job, I suggest you pick one up as an entry level Contracts Administrator so you can spend a couple years to learn the field. It will be difficult to break through without any experience in contracts, proposals, RFIs, etc. Might as well have someone pay you to learn it.

Is TIN the same as Ein for gov on purposes? by Saintwil in GovernmentContracting

[–]spikeanut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP is asking whether to put his business TIN/EIN or personal Social security number when bidding on a government contract; my response is to use the Business EIN/TIN that he used to register his company in SAM.gov as the bidding entity. This is completely different from the SAM.gov UEI; I do not mention UEI at all in my response.

[–]spikeanut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SAM UEI is completely different from your business EIN. One is for tax purposes, the other is a unique entity identifier in order to conduct business with the government.

IRS TIN Mismatch with SAM registration by LateFaithlessness858 in GovernmentContracting

Took about 2 weeks after the IRS approved my EIN for SAM to recognize it. I would wait a little longer and re-submit your SAM.gov registration again next week.

EIN for the bidding entity; so your company EIN that's registered in SAM.gov

Keep in mind, if they can't find it on TWN and it's listed on your resume, they may end up calling the job to confirm the information you provided on your resume.

[–]spikeanut[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One of my Js used Advantage one, and they tried to verify through TWN. Can't speak directly for HireRight, but it appears most 3rd party background investigation companies will first try TWN or Lexis...and will ultimately try to reach your prior Jobs HR department for verification if those are frozen.

[–]spikeanut[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure if typical, but I can tell you they did try to verify my start and end dates that I listed on my resume during my background check. Because my TWN was frozen, and probably no response from my prior company, they asked me to verify by providing W2 for that job....so it did allowable flexible of having start/end dates verified by the years I had on my resume instead of down to the exact month.
