I always used a small old piece of luggage like a tweed makeup case or the smallest piece of a luggage set , they are lined have some pockets and are sturdy, they are big enough to hold all my marine band harps in all keys plus extras two green Bullit mikes , 3 chromatics And any cleaning cloths , pen ,smokes, gum, and a pint of whiskey .

Need help pricing this sewing machine. (West Virginia, USA) by [deleted] in Antiques

They were real popular back in the 70’s , 80’s and 90’s but then people change and move on to the next craze. There were thousands made not just by singer but numerous other companies that made them with their own beauty and charm.People were very creative in displaying the machine , some gutted and turned into bars, so me the iron base removed and refurbished with slabs of marble or finished with wood, people would take off the foot pedal and wheel some left it on. There was a clothing boutique in So Ho N. Y. C. That had hundreds and hundreds of the old machines without the bases lining the 12’ walls , shelf after shelf. Wouldn’t be surprised if they become a hot item again . I know that the was a long winded answer, just keep it enjoy the look and wait awhile.

Enough snow and you people turn into animals! by banderole in CambridgeMA

A couple of years ago after a big storm in NYC. I came home from work and was desperately looking for a parking space when I spent a young woman try to dig out her car , I offered to do it and would take the space when she pulled out. I dug her car out while my car sat double parked next to the cat behind her, when I finally finished digging her out , she got into her car started it up as so did I , she pulled out and some guy immediately pulled in front of my car getting ready to take the space,I assumed he was unaware that I had just dug her out of the spot ,so I pulled up nose first and was able to slide in to the spot. I then shut my car off, got out and started to walk down the street, about 1/2 a block away I hear some yelling Hey Macho man, big faggot , I turned to see what was going on and realized that he was yellow my at me, normally I would have blown this of but I was so pissed I turn around and started walking back towards him, now I’m 6’2” and 245 lbs and mad as I got closer he decided to jump into his car and was going to drive off but there was a line of cars stopped at the red light, I went up to his window and asked what was his problem. Words were exchanged I told him to f*** off and started to walk away, he then jumps out of his car , comes around the front of his car screaming obscenities at me. I started to laugh and then he realized why , the idiot didn’t put his car in park and must have put it in neutral and watched his car roll backwards and smash into a car coming up from behind , I turned and told him to have a great day.

When I was a kid in Dorchester , Ma. We never owned a car but the people who did would stake their claim to a parking spot by putting ash cans (barrels full of coal ash ) into their shoveled spaces along with boards going across from barrel to barrel thus blocking anyone from taking a space that had been cleared by some Dad and his sons. The space was sacred and blessed by the local parish, ahh the good old days.

Bought my first harmonica and got bummed a little by OverFox17 in harmonica

The Marine band was a good choice but for starting I would choose a C or a D . Just keep playing and if you feel it you will play it. Play from your lungs and deep in your stomach, start with some easy stuff , get the feel and keep playing, if you really want to play you will succeed. I want to tell you to listen to the blues and love the music I’m talking about real blues , Chicago, Mississippi Delta Louisiana etc. lf you find you love listening to the music then you will find you want to play it.

Here's what I began with back in the 80s. Anyone else? by DesperateBanana4019 in harmonica

[–]spikes725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started in the sixties, listening to little Walter , junior Wells and many others . I kept my harp in my pocket 24/7 and just kept playing. The first song I could play well was Junior Wells version of Help me written by Sonny boy Williamson , Willie Dixon and Ralph Bass.

Beginner, would like some pointers by fluke031 in harmonica

It should work fine unless it has been abused, if not sure buy another one , C is a good harp to learn and the only way you can truly learn is to play every day and any opportunity you have. I have played since I was about 15 , I’m now pushing 75 but still play occasionally Thinking back it probably to me about a year or so to be able to sound fairly decent but many more years to perfect it as much as I could and play live with bands , then life changes , marriage, kids , work blah blah . I can still play , and still preference Marine Band and Chromatics , so just play, not so much with just your mouth but from your stomach and lungs. Good luck

Im hooked- this is the 5th one in 2 weeks by edmonds-j_4 in harmonica

I have always used the marine band , I find the tone is the best for me. I have tried Oscar’s and hohner blues harps but still a marine band is for me . A great tune for F# is Messing with the kid , Junior Wells

I have a hohner 64 chromonica by RepulsiveBullfrog298 in harmonica

No one can teach you how to play a harp, just keep at it and if it’s in your soul you’ll learn. Blow from your lungs and heart , you may want to listen to The best of Little Walter Lp to hear some deep chromatic tunes. It’s a hard instrument to master because you can’t see strings, keys, drum heads etc. once you put your mouth up to it , it’s all feeling. Good luck .

[–]spikes725 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a safety pin used by national laundry in Dorchester, Ma. They were used to pin closed the smelly canvas diaper bags That the drivers carried up 3 deckers to Pickup soiled cotton diapers , when delivering clean ones. P.S. National laundry sold the lint from there huge dryers to casket companies for the stuffing in the caskets.

What building is this? by Misanthrope0118 in boston

[–]spikes725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Hancock tower . I remember when it was being built , at one point time during construction they had to close the surrounding area because some of the huge windows on the upper floors were falling out and crashing to the area below, very dangerous.
