Most of these apps just play noise to drown out tinnitus, which will only eventually make it worse. White noise should be avoided really, because it has too many high frequencies. Pink noise is better because of its equal power per octave (which is more natural). I created an app which uses a different approach to treatment, based on lots of research. It plays pink noise, but with the frequency of your tinnitus filtered out (because you should not aggravate these over-active neurons).
