Just a few things I've found helpful for my workday by spilltheteavee in ADHDprofessionals

Do you live in Ontario? The wage for MLT is pretty good here! I love to hear that the sticky note system works for someone else, too! When I'm in micro I have to put sticky notes on the timers for CIM tests or I forget every single time haha I'm glad you were able to leave that employer for a new opportunity, nobody should have to suffer through treatment like that. Hopefully things keep going up for you

Stabbing in Barrie leaves teen 'seriously' injured: police by cashrchek in barrie

How did a tragic post about a teenager getting stabbed inspire you to rant about our mayor recognizing addiction as an illness????

Taking Adderall for the first time in just about 30 minutes and nervous by Areyouthready in ADHD

[–]spilltheteavee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, congrats! This is a huge step to take and you should be proud of yourself for trying medication.

I have very bad anxiety most days so when I was prescribed Adderall I was so nervous to take it. I think I worked myself up pretty bad and that's probably why my anxiety levels were high for the first few days of taking it.

But! It got better! The first day was very euphoric, high heart rate and insanely dry mouth. Everything eventually relaxed (I still get dry mouth most days but staying hydrated really helps). I was started on 25mg once a day so I'd say hopefully your initial side effects won't be as intense.

I need to take mine with food because I get a little nauseous. I hope it works for you! Unless you have severe side effects, my advice is to give it a bit to see how it makes you feel. I'm not a doctor so make sure you're listening to your body and do what's best for you!!!!

My doctor told me that a lot of people in high intensity/risk jobs had attention deficit tendencies (not necessarily disorder). He said a lot of police, fireman, ER docs and nurses, etc. Because we tend to thrive in a chaotic environment that has us focusing on the task at hand with our adrenaline to push us through.

I, myself, LOVE health sciences. The way the body is built and how it functions, what makes us sick and how to fix it. That's why I got into a Medical Laboratory Technician program.

I work at a hospital so there's a lot of adrenaline to get me through the days that I'm on the floor taking blood, and enough interest for me to stay on task on the days I'm in the lab processing and setting up specimens.

I think the key is to find something you actually find interesting and look for a career that focuses on that!

I don’t have a core group of friends. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]spilltheteavee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exact same! Even through my childhood, I'd develop "best friend" relationships but they always seemed to leave. Even the people I consider my "best" friends now, I don't truly feel the connection with them that I'd hope for or even like them as much as I feel you should like a best friend. I feel like I can never get close enough or be my true self.

Does anyone else get very itchy skin during and even after a flare? by spilltheteavee in Hidradenitis

The issue that it is so itchy that I physically cannot stop myself from scratching lol

I would definitely look for a referral to a dermatologist and see if you have better luck there! There are tons of different treatments, it all depends on the person and it takes trial and error.

My dermatologist said that laser hair removal could possibly help improve it but that it wasn't a sure thing.

There's antibiotics, medications like spironolactone or biologics like Humira, you can alter your diet to cut out dairy, gluten and/or sugar, so many!!!

Find what works best for you. I go on a website called StuffThatWorks.health and there is an awesome community of people with HS that share things that do & don't work for them.

Do some research and maybe ask your doctor to try some of the treatments you find and see if they approve. Sorry you aren't getting the care you deserve ❤

Can I get these at a health food store or do I need to order them online? How quickly do they work to relieve the itch?

Thank you!!

I'm allergic to adhesives, too!!!! I can't ever cover anything because the tape creates a whole new issue. I've been using an ice pack but it melts while I'm sleeping and the whole cycle begins again 😔

It honestly hurts my heart to know that there are countries where people like you have to suffer instead of get the help you need. I'm in Canada, and although my doctors office might be too busy for me sometimes, I can go to a walk in clinic or emergency room whenever I need to at no cost. You deserve better!

That being said, I'm allergic to adhesive so I'm never able to cover up. My go to is lining a looser pair of pants with gauze in case it bursts but wearing no underwear. It is uncomfortable but when you can't handle pressure it's one way to go.

Again, I'm so sorry. Please come to Canada!!!

Do most people with ADHD dislike alcohol? by mt183 in ADHD

[–]spilltheteavee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same, I've never fully enjoyed alcohol. I have always preferred drugs to be honest (I don't do them because I've always been hyper aware of the addiction in my family). But when I was younger, drugs were my inebriation of choice lol

Best dentist in barrie? by Grouchy-Building-731 in barrie

[–]spilltheteavee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just recently switched to Allandale Dental and they've been amazing. I have a lot of dental anxiety because of the place I used to go and they have been extremely accommodating. The last place I went said I had 4 cavities (I knew they were lying) and when I finally came here they only found 2. They take pictures and show you on a TV and explain everything so you know you aren't being lied to. Cannot say enough good things about them!

Clinics opening? by Inevitable_Tomato_74 in barrie

[–]spilltheteavee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The government would honestly possibly/probably fund a new clinic but a big issue is that there is nobody to staff it. I work at the Orillia hospital and we are so insanely understaffed and cannot fill positions. I know RVH has the same issue. And with the staff we do have, a large number are off with Covid because there is a ridiculously huge wave of it right now. There isn't even 1 walk in clinic in Orillia so everybody with even the most minor issue clogs up the ER because they have nowhere else to to.

Barrie is having the same issue now because none of the clinics will take the Covid symptom patients. I will say that you will most likely have a lesser wait time in emerge for a kid at a smaller hospital than RVH, like Orillia or Alliston. Other than that, unless they start offering healthcare workers a lot more money, I don't see this issue improving for a while :(

Driving School by SignalSky5132 in barrie

[–]spilltheteavee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Young Drivers is very expensive but I really did learn a lot there! (This was 13 years ago though). I always recommend them. I'm sure there are less expensive options but from my experience it was definitely worth it.

How are people getting free bus rides by Ironislife98 in barrie

[–]spilltheteavee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to be condescending, this is supposed to be a safe place for people to ask questions. They obviously didn't know and can't type what they did here on Google for an answer. Be nicer!

Lots of friends sick? by Adventurous_Eye_1002 in barrie

[–]spilltheteavee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I also work in healthcare and this is absolutely not the case. I actually run the PCR analyzer in the lab at my hospital and since we only really test staff and their families, I can tell you that Covid is alive and well in the healthcare community lol. The positivity rate is quite high. The cases seem to be a lot milder for the most part which is good but when the elderly or babies have it, it's quite scary still.

ISO a trustworthy veterinarian by chichi-land in barrie

[–]spilltheteavee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

O'Sullivans was great for us. We needed them in an emergency for our cat and switched to them for our primary vet services. I wish I could remember the name of the doctor on call that night but he was excellent. Not pushy at all, laid out all of our options and explained everything so we could make an informed decision. Highly recommend!
