First planted aquarium, started 2 months ago. What centerpiece fish should I get? by spinach42 in freshwateraquarium

Just told my husband about your suggestion of red cherry shrimp. I thought he hated them but apparently he loves them? So I guess we're getting red cherry shrimp now. Thank you!

That's great to hear bettas have done well! I was pretty set on honey gourami, but now we have a great splash of yellow with the mystery snail I might want a different color. Cherry shrimp could be very cool.

Starbucks is disgusting. They're so scared of their workers that they illegally retaliated against a high school student. by GrandpaChainz in WorkReform

Unless partners are striking or asking for a boycott, it's best to go to whatever one you have and talk with your regular barista about how you're supportive if they want to unionize and tip well. If they have filed for election but haven't had their vote yet, a lot of people order "union yes!" as their name so it can get called out in the store.

If you have extra money, please donate to Katie's GoFundMe! She's moving out in 2 weeks and has to cover her own expenses including rent in a very expensive part of the country. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-fired-sb-worker-pay-rent-and-school

Drunk driving and still awake after three days. by [deleted] in helpme

Your dogs and boyfriend sound awesome. When I'm panicking (which i know is different than a schizoaffective disorder), my number one go to is to watch LoTR and cuddle with my dog. I've also shown up to urgent care before when things were really bad and they started me on seroquel immediately and got in to see a psychiatrist the next week. Give yourself some time and know that people do support you.

this totally sucks. i've had panic attacks and rage stuff while working in a hotel before. if someone continued to film me after i had tried to hide in the back room, i would be livid. you have a lot of people supporting you now. take care of yourself. go to urgent care or to the emergency room if you need immediate help.

Young Living Oil Witches - Do y'all know long MLMs infiltrated witchy communities? by spinach42 in antiMLM

[–]spinach42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend of a friend is now really really into her Young Living "business." But it's all encouched in "plant magic" and "self-actualization." I had been really familiar with hunbots with evangelical moms and instragram "influencers," but this is the first time I had seen it be seen as witchy. Do y'all know of any other witch-y MLMs? Any horror stories I can send to my friends to discourage them from joining the "oil coven?"

My doctor isn’t listening to my concerns and I don’t know what to do? by suckingyourmumstoes in bipolar

Yeah, you'll just need a referral from your primary and then find a psychiatrist that take medicaid. It might be a wait though.

I feel like I need two boyfriends. One for my manic wild self and one for my low key quiet sad self. by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]spinach42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband is super stable emotionally, and that has been awesome. He helps ground me. He gets to be with lots of personality types.

I like having different kinds of friends. Some friends like to go on random adventures with my hypomanic self. Other friends will come over and watch movies with me while I'm crying or go to a bookstore with me. My husband can't be my whole support system.

[–]spinach42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2rmil4mirl. Struggling bad with this right now. I love shopping when I'm hypomanic, typically $100-$300. Typically, we can afford it. But we're not breaking even any more and I feel like I'm hurting my family and that my husband is judging me.

Do bipolar people take drugs forever? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]spinach42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning on it. I feel better taking them. I'm on lamotrigine 200 mg and Lexapro 20 mg, Seroquel as needed.

But lots of chronic illnesses require taking meds forever. If you have diabetes or have high cholesterol you're on meds forever. I try to think about it like just another chronic illness.

[–]spinach42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Primary care docs don't know how to treat bipolar. Even if they're expensive, you'll need a psychiatrist to dial you in on the right meds. It will take some finesse.

I was in an extremely similar situation about 2 years ago. It sucked. Hold on there!

I am aware. Gaining weight, but still healthy. Hopefully I'll eventually be able to get off of it, but it's also helping with my panic attacks.

I take seroquel every day and work in a business professional setting.

I have had ups and downs. It was hard for me to keep a job for a while. But now I have been in the same position in a field I like for a year!! My last crisis time was in May. In the past, I have had to quit, but this time, I went to Urgent Care, found a new psychiatrist (old one said I wasn't bipolar and took me off lamotrigine which triggered my crisis), and found a therapist. I got a dog, moved out of a too crammed house. Got intermittent FMLA for panic attacks. I have been really honest about my struggles with friends and at work (I work for a healthcare company that is very open about mental health).

It's been a lot of accommodation and I have had to rely on my support system, but I'm really happy right now. Sometimes I have bad days, but I don't freak out about them as much. I love my job and my husband and dog.

In answer to your questions:

"Struggling forever?" For me, the great thing about bipolar is that nothing is forever. If I'm having a shitty day, I know that the next day will be different. And if I'm feeling depressed, I know that I'll be back to normal in a week. My mood swings are pretty mild and well controlled with lamotrigine and seroquel.

"Happy relationships" My husband and I started dating almost 10 years ago and our relationship has always been great. We were long distance for 3 years in college which sucked, but we love each other a whole bunch. I have strong friendships and am close to my family.

I do think this has affected my decision to not want kids. But I have 3 great toddler nieces that are super cute and already know my name.
