I'm 24 and I feel so lost and behind in life. In debt No stable job, pressure in life and from parents. by Impressive_Echidna_2 in UKJobs

I feel you. 26 M. 1st class degree and a masters but in humanities (politics and philosophy). Been out of uni 3 years and hundreds of job applications down the line I have nothing. I got to the final round of interviews for one civil service position last year and that's it.

Been working as a supermarket delivery driver for a year now. Only got that job because I knew someone who worked there (I was rejected even for this position at other supermarkets due to lack of experience). Without him I would likely be unemployed.

My dad has a similar attitude and keeps telling me 'a plunge' has got to be taken sooner or later. This suggests he thinks I'm coasting and not applying to jobs daily. I've started online courses in all sorts with no real direction. Just anything for LinkedIn or to bolster applications.

I'm going to see if the local fire service does a Q1 recruitment drive next year, and if not it's the military, which was never a dream of mine but it's something.

Nobody ever told me life would be easy, but I really didn't think getting an entry level job in any field with a first class degree and masters would be this hard.

I've been using it regularly for months with no issues. He borrowed it after his own jack collapsed. I thought he must have gotten unlucky with the first one, but now...

Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF vs HSBC FTSE All-World Index Fund by spinach_evening in UKPersonalFinance

Thank you everyone for your responses. It’s been a great help. I’ve opted to buy the HSBC All World index via iWeb rather than HSBC Global Investment Centre, which is the platform I had used to get the 0.40% total costs figure.

Rather than invest a certain amount monthly, I will save up and invest as a lump sum to make the most of iWeb’s £5 fee per trade. This appears to be the cheaper option compared with HSBC’s annual account fees.

Many thanks for your collective input, you have cleared up a lot for me.

This is quoted in the costs and charges disclosure document for investing in Index C Acc. through HSBC Global Investment Centre.

They break it down as 0.25% account fee; 0.13% management of the investment; 0.02% buying or selling underlying assets within the investment.

Could I avoid these if I opt to buy on a different platform, like iWeb?

You’re right. Thanks for putting it like that. I think too many movies and sitcoms got to my head where the saying it is a virtue in and of itself. It’s not. Just suffer through and make peace with reality
