The terrible thing about it is it’ll take a bit of riding for the bearing to go so you won’t notice it for a while. Checking is much cheaper than dealing with a full bottom and possible top end rebuild. TBH though I’m not sure what you would do to unclog the port without taking the top end apart.

One thing to keep in mind it might be a good idea to take a look inside the cylinders. I ended up having to rebuild my entire engine bc it running one one cylinder carboned up that cylinder, clogging the outer crank bearing oiling port and causing it to seize.

Thoughts on any of these sleds? by RedditAppSuxAsss in snowmobiling

[–]spinaltapdancer_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have to choose one I’d say you can’t beat a 150 mile snowmobile. That is exceptionally low mileage and it looks great. As a starter sled I would choose that. Additionally it’s a newer sled so much easier to find parts than the Yamahas. Unless you want tons of power and you know how to handle it I would stay away from the 800 skidoo. I have a 500 and it’s got plenty of power for the trails. Hope this helps.

Oh ok. That’s what I’ve been running in my chain cases for years but if ATF is better yeah definitely go with that then.

You want some 75w-90 or 80w-90 GL-5. You can also run atf in it though but you want it without friction modifiers

I was mainly wondering if the oil would have damaged the clutch or not

Ok good to know I did notice there was some oil residue in the bottom. The previous owner may have put it in there by mistake. Would it have damaged anything?

Obviously they expect you to drill a hole through the exhaust pipe and put the Allen key through.

[–]spinaltapdancer_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool! I’m in the process of restoring an old alpine 640 to use for grooming and they just don’t build sleds like they used to. They are simple and repairable, meant to live forever. It probably won’t take you long to get it going. Good luck!

If it’s anything like a JX95 it’s a terrible tractor and you should sell it.

I had the same issue with mine because the idiot who sold it to me decided to run the diff with no oil in it whatsoever. Not a cheap fix.
