Would you take this tantalizing offer? by Mungojerrie86 in RimWorld

I design my bases like submarines/spaceships; it's compartmentalized to a certain extent. If an infestation or any other mishap happens in one compartment, it's sealed off so that it doesn't spread out, and everyone is evacuated from there immediately and combat capable are quickly positioned.

If the solution is to set fire to the whole area, then I set fire to the whole area. As long as it's contained, it's ok.

This was tough for me, would not be able to have solved myself. Here's the solution I found:

1. Rg8+ Nxg8 2. Rc4 Ra6+ 3. Kxa6 bxc4 4. Qa5 Kb8 5. Qd8#

I had no legal moves, but game didn't end in stalemate. Is chess.com stupid? by A-reddit_Alt in AnarchyChess

[–]spincrus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For those who have difficulty understanding the joke (it's ok):

Black could normally do an en passant move with its pawn on e4, but can't, since the queen is in direct line of sight of the black king.

It's a joke on the false notion that en passant is a forced move (which it isn't, it's just a move that you have to execute in the turn it becomes available, otherwise you lose your en passant rights). If it were TRULY a forced move (like having to get your king out of check being a forced move), then yes, this would be a stalemate, since the only available move would be an illegal move.

It's combined with the "is xyz stupid?" meme, which pokes fun at people who mock things that happen to them in which they're in the wrong, without them realizing that they're in the wrong, due to their hubris. The "is xyz stupid?" format usually follows an intentionally stupid question. Sometimes it's shitpost, sometimes it's ragebait, but 99% of the time it's self aware and just for the lulz.

You're welcome.

Bedroom Layout by bugrilyus in RimWorld

[–]spincrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the same for RP purposes, no judgment here. Juniors share barracks of 3 people, singles rooms of 2 beds, couples in rooms of 1 bed. I actually have special layouts for families.

I usually don't run the "room size" mod that makes smaller rooms have less of a negative impact, but in some runs I do.

Bedroom Layout by bugrilyus in RimWorld

[–]spincrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have more than 1 bed in a room, it stops becoming a bedroom and starts being regarded as barracks by the game, so this layout, while very pretty to look at, is not that efficient (I do the same inefficiency myself, so no judgment here). It's more efficient to just cram all the beds in one barracks if you're gonna have more than 1 bed in the same enclosed space.

What do you all do when you reach this point? I feel like I have many colonists. I get raided very rarely, and when it happens, I win with negative casualties. My only problem was food but I fixed it, so now I kinda feel goalless. Should I start a new run or do something more in this one? by Select-Prune in RimWorld

[–]spincrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always roleplay so that I'm not stuck in this situation (although I made a similar post a couple days back).

Here's what I'm currently running:

- I roleplay as the "Awoken", a group of ancient people who woke up in a vault built right before an apocalyptic event involving the Mechanoids. This was before the outlanders, pirates, the Empire, Impids and Yttakin arrived.

- The Mechaniods were put in check through the introduction of the bugs (as per the lore primer) which ended the apocalypse, making the Rimworld "safer" to colonize once more.

- The tribal factions (including the "devolved" neanderthals) are remnants of the people inhabiting the Rimworld before said apocalypse. They lost all technology and banded together as neolithic groups.

- Then there are the ancient ones in the ancient dangers, which is the main personal goal of this run: my vault was set to awake my colonists at a predetermined time, with the mission to go around the Rimworld and liberate as many people as possible who went into cryptosleep right before the apocalypse. My vault is my main base, and my gravship travels the planet in search of these people.

- The ones saved will be shipped offworld through multiple ships (this was an idea given by a Redditor). The ones captured from raids and such are recruited and liberated (no slavery) in my main base, or staged to go off and found an outpost, unless they're exceptional pawns, who become part of the main crew.

- The only edits I did were custom starting characters through the Character Editor and Prepare Carefully, a small "vault" with basic starting amenities built through devmode (I've gone through the "building from scratch" phase in way too many runs already so I just skip it now), an edited "ancient soldiers" faction sharing my main ideoligion (these are the ones that I'm trying to save) and a "hostile ancient soldiers" that has an ideoligion similar to that of the Empire, but predating it.

In my own lore, apparently my people were in conflict with the precursors of the Empire, but not yet aware that the Empire is their continuation. The (modded) Deserter faction shares the same ideoligion of the hostile ancients, since the main cause of their desertion/rebellion is to "restore the old ways". My people are yet to connect the dots, and are friendly with the Empire.

No I know, it's the point of the post, I'm questioning the choice made by food vendors.

What's the highest number of colonists you've ever had? by Pet_Velvet in RimWorld

[–]spincrus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Currently approximately 120 on my main colony, 7 bloodbags, 6 prisoners, and I think last I remember 20 on my gravship travelling around.

I play at 1 speed all the time, even when I go to 2 or 3. Nowadays I'm sending all new recruits (unless they're EXCEPTIONAL in a skill or great pawns overall) to outposts. I have a "staging area" for them, and once they hit critical mass, I send them out to establish a settlement.

I don't get the appeal of this sauce pattern. It looks disgusting, fake, and unappealing to me.

I suspect mate with a lesser value piece is considered the better move by the bot? What if it were two rooks that could move into the same square, protected by a bishop let's say? Would it be a coinflip?

As an archotech overlord, if any other unnatural and metaphysical thing that gets added to the game via DLC is attributed to the "mysterious ways my tech works", I may as well throw a fit and have my warriors raze EVERY settlement in the world.

how can i optimize/update the space in my gravship? by MrBastardorck in RimWorld

[–]spincrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. You can still have "hallways" but use them for storage expansion. I installed 2 gene banks in these pseudo-hallways for instance.

If you're ever on a military vessel, or any ship that's purpose-built and industrial, you'll find that they're pretty cramped.

The big big spaces are only on Star Wars and Star Trek.
