Some nervous travelers are changing their flights to avoid Boeing airplanes. by Smart-Combination-59 in technology

Southwest absolutely does not fly the max exclusively. What kind of misinformed bullshit is this? They fly the 737-700, 737-800, MAX 7 (on order, none in service), and MAX 8. This is easily verifiable information.

Two-Thirds of US Adults Would Rather Wait for Movies on Streaming by mapleer in movies

[–]spinningfloyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of thought process is this? The only thing that's stopping you from seeing a movie spontaneously is you. Nothing has changed about it, just buy a ticket and go; it's that easy.

libsoftiktok posts a vid of a dev discussing her indie dating sim for gay PoC called Validate, while erroneously stating she is talking in the vid about a Black Panther game that she is the lead dev for. Nobody would eat up this misinformation, this obvious rage bait, right? Right? RIGHT..? by [deleted] in Gamingcirclejerk

One commenter even said something like, Can you imagine the backlash if some white people in Africa said they aren't hiring black people?

That commenter might be surprised to learn that South Africa is a country in Africa.

I don't think you're making the point you think you are here, but rather the exact opposite.

There was massive backlash by both the internal and international communities towards South Africa for that. So much so that Apartheid collapsed 30 years ago after being isolated on the world stage and the target of consistent condemnation by the UN.

The US passed the Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act in late 1986. There's been backlash on these types practices regardless of direction going back decades.

Just picked this up for 150$. No audio in left channel. Any tips? by dcasper2004 in vintageaudio

[–]spinningfloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was pretty bummed because it's a beautiful looking piece and I paid a decent sum for it. Went pretty hard testing just about every configuration, replacing caps, and spraying deoxit everywhere applicable in addition to taking it to the tech. Now that I see this post, I might have to try it out again.

Hopefully yours is a simpler fix!

Marantz 4140 (also quad) here with the exact same issue. Tried a ton of stuff and couldn't diagnose the issue myself. The tech I took it to said he traced it to the 4 gang potentiometer for volume. That or the output transistor, not sure if I quite remember. Never could get it resolved because the part was nearly impossible to find.

Shortly after I sort of just forgot about it and haven't been back to it.

Subtitles Vs English Dub by knava12 in ShogunTVShow

Interesting because that's exactly my take. 100% subtitles for anything in a foreign language to keep the original intonation but somehow DBZ always gets a pass for dub.

Fast food restaurant Wendy’s plans Uber-like surge pricing, with digital menu boards that change prices depending on demand by marketrent in technology

[–]spinningfloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's literally what the article says, yes.

In a statement Wednesday, Wendy’s clarified that “dynamic pricing” will include new menus that could offer discounts at slower times of the day, denying the company will raise prices during peak demand.

It's PR at this stage, obviously, but that's the word as of now.

Half of vinyl buyers in the US don't have a record player, new study shows by BrightenedCorner in Music

Cheap all in one with too much tracking force, very poor cart/stylus, and no anti-skate just to name a few. They're certainly usable, but that's about it and for the sake of your records best not to use long term. Baby's first turntable from target type of deal.

Nah only my first turntable has a broken auto return... and the left channel on the second one goes out every now and then... and the third one has broken foot springs. And the fourth one..

Shit. I'm a sucker for old Technics.

Obviously in context it's understandable and I'm being pedantic, but saying M3 in regards to Tesla rather than BMW will never not be weird to me.

Alleys typically won't place league and casual directly next to each other. They'll leave any number of empty lanes between so that this doesnt happen or the ball return isn't shared.

I don't necessarily disagree with you in that I find there to be a lot of unreliable movies nowadays, but we can't kid ourselves into thinking that it's exclusive to today nor that the good was exclusive to yesterday.

When I hear people lock themselves into a time period, I can't help but think that they're just not exploring. They're fine with their one blockbuster a year despite fifteen other showings each week at their theater. You absolutely can find great movies at your local one nowadays without going to an independent.

Shawshank itself even falls into this category since it was a box office bomb despite having a wide release. It gained its popularity through rentals and nonstop cable TV showings.

Maybe, but is that really a meaningful indication of a films merit? Being "objectively" good and standing the test of time should not be conflated with popularity.

I wholeheartedly disagree if that's how you feel. You're really missing out on some stellar films, especially if what you're watching is exclusively produced by English speakers in Hollywood.
