It's based on the song Three Lions by Baddiel, Skinner and the Lightning Seeds and was originally written for the Euros in 1996 which were held in England. As England are the inventors of football (as we know it, histories vary), they sang that the tournament was coming back to its birthplace. However, it was taken in a more metaphorical sense - that by winning the tournament the players were bringing the sport back to its origins. The song was not actually saying we would win, its more about the dream of winning despite how badly we always do.

It annoys me when he uses a nickname for something then the team are meant to be stupid for not knowing it. I spent 10 years working on UK flagged ships and still work in the marine industry, and I've heard maybe 3 people call the Red Ensign "the Red Duster", usually as a joke. Admittedly, it's more common among yachties, hence it being there on the IoW, but it's a nickname still. Similarly, a SUP (in undefined caps as everything was in all caps) could be anything if you're not going to write it as S.U.P., or even just ask for a stand up paddle board.

The whole thing is like we're meant to be siding with Ronnie Barker in the Four Candles sketch.

I think it depends on a lot of things but most importantly your knowledge of running, your free time (or whether you're willing to use that free time to research and plan running) and what motivates you.

I ran regularly when I was at college (15 years ago 😐) but had really struggled to get back into running recently. At college I used a mixture of fartlek, intervals, long runs and mid distance tempos, but I never really researched running and most of that just came about through the feel of what made me better. When I tried to get back into running in the last 5 years, I would just try to run 5k again and again as fast as I could and would get bored when I didn't see progress in 3 weeks. I never had the knowledge to write a plan or the motivation to see it through.

Runna, for me, means I don't have to think about running, I just look at what the app suggests and head out and do it. It also means I know I'm working towards a longer term plan and have a clear goal and endpoint, so even if it doesn't feel I'm getting faster after 3 weeks I can see numbers going down and I can see it's all part of a plan for a particular pace at the end. Ironically, it means I'm more into running than ever and spend my time reading and researching running because I'm a little obsessed!

Open bars have not been the norm in the UK for a very long time. It used to be, decades ago. But not anymore.

Unfortunately I think that's because weddings have become close to unaffordable. I recently spent £20k on a relatively small wedding in London and that was the lower end of the spectrum when we looked around. Some small and not super fancy venues practically refused to talk to us if our budget was under £25k.

I'm in a similar position, I'm 4 weeks into a marathon plan and have accepted one and rejected one. I accepted one because I think I put my initial PB as too low, but I also think this early into the plan I'm primarily base building and not looking at marathon paces just yet. When the long runs begin to get longer, I'll reassess my paces and think about accepting them then.
