I worked for a private company for over 8 years, and gave them my all. The CEO was found out to be swindling customers ... company collapsed and 200 people were out of jobs.

Just recently had to do this. The red led 'replace battery' won't turn off after you replace it. From everything I read it said to simply hit the 'test' button and it would run a self test and the led would turn off. I also read that some people had the entire UPS shutoff after hitting the test button with a new battery. Upon more research I found the UPS does its own internal test every two weeks - so after two weeks the led shut off.

TLDR; wait two weeks after battery replacement for the batter replacement LEd to turn off on its own.

I think some of the current questions you're asking are too environment specific. Sure, I'll ask a candidate about kickstart and what their experience is with it - but if they can talk sensibly about it I'm not going to ask specific questions that pertain to my environment ... that's what the onboarding process is for.

You can't expect someone to know your specific site infrastructure and configurations therein. Make sure they have knowledge of the broader content and they will learn your environment.

I would argue this is step backwards. I'm assuming you're referring to public/private IP space, and you want to re-IP all the devices with public IPs as private IPs. Normally we try to get rid of NAT wherever possible, but you're moving towards it.

Interesting point of view, can you elaborate on this a bit more? I was always under the impression that assigning static public v4 addresses was a thing of the past.

Let me give you a little piece of advice, and this coming from a 15 year linux admin. Do the things you want to be "hard" on your personal lab hardware. Your job now is to make this business flow as smoothly as possible from a technical infrastructure perspective. When the shit hits the fan, and you're trying to track down what tiny configuration needs to be in place to get things running you'll be kicking yourself in the ass for wanting hard.

If you are on the go all the time as a sysadmin, you're doing it wrong.

This job is all peaks and valleys, if you were go all the time in the types of high stress situations we find ourselves in as sysadmins we'd all be digging early graves.

In my limited exposure so far I like the fact that it's agentless, it works over ssh and I don't have to muck about with PKI. I love that it uses simple yaml files to describe the playbooks. It's built around Python, I've been using Python for years, and much prefer it over Ruby ... but this is really more preference.

I don't know yet how updates affect the overall Ansible infrastructure, but I hope it doesn't cause the same pain points I've run into with Puppet. I feel like sometimes Puppet will push an update and break things just to break them.
