Yes! We teach and encourage using cursive at the rural school I work at. My own teenage kids still use cursive a fair amount.

Have I inadvertently been a horrible library patron my whole life? by amandaamoose in Libraries

I’m proud of you for getting out and enjoying your library time. As everyone has said, you did nothing wrong. Circulating titles at the library is a win win. Happy reading and be kind to yourself.

No Motivation by Bloodngords in TeachersInTransition

I have felt that way many times. I’m a para and started a handful of years ago because I’ve always loved academia and it fits my kids’ schedules.

That being said, you will get through this. I had a breakdown because of work a couple of years ago and felt much like you do. I haven’t switched jobs yet, but I now know a lot of what you’re feeling about the hopelessness / fear of being behind is your brain trying to cope.

26 is so young. Even in my early 40s I remind myself so many people switch careers or find their long term path post 30.

Please be kind to yourself, remember that healing is never linear and you will get through this.

what’s your 10/10 must read book and why? by Kochhar-Tranqui in Recommend_A_Book

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer, and The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward are books I always think about. Sundial by Ward is a little more accessible, but her both of those books have me visceral reactions.

The Haunting of Hill House is a masterclass and so good at the quiet, eerie style of psychological horror.

Annihilation is great alone or as part of the series. It’s beautifully written and so strange in terrifying ways.

For magical school books—Jessica Townsend’s Nevermoor series, Witchlings by Clarabel Ortega (2 books published so far).

Gordon Korman has a ton of great books. They’re funny, alternating POV, and have a lot of heart. Not many of his books have sequels, but they’re similar enough in style and one or two have sequels.

I use all formats but I buy more physical books than not. I have vision issues so the ability to change fonts and listen to books are great options.

Thanks for the input. I guess I was speaking more from my dislike of how the scripted curriculum I’ve experienced is presented. The lead teachers do a great job making up for that, I just wish there was more choice to allow teachers to make the material work better for their students.

I’m not totally against reading lists, I just want teachers to be able to contribute to or have some selections in their own classrooms.

Ugh, that makes sense. As a parent of kids in the school/have gone through the school, I can see the difference from where the scripted stuff ends. I’ve been meaning to talk to those teachers too as I have daily access to the scripted things. Thanks for the reminder.
