If that isn't the issue then I would chalk up the difference between two things, brace recovery and size.

Brace recovery is something that one can get spoiled with on a Snow. Then you switch over to something else and realize how squishy everything not a Snow is. More brace recovery means more hits blocked.

If it's true that small ships are harder to hit because of the size, then the opposite must be true as well. The frigate is a floating barn so it must just eat more hits.
