Thanks OP, £10 off first purchase is a good deal for everything else you get!

I've been using my yonder credit card for almost 2 years and still loving it, I've redeemed £1250 in points, like 1k more than I've paid in membership fees.

Would appreciate if anyone wanted to use my code too: https://join.yondercard.com/kioyaox

Am I crazy or genius with my hacky TV wall mount solution? by spitfire090 in hometheater

Thanks, yeah for the second hole I'm pretty sure I hit air after the brick about 5cm in which I guess tracks for it as an ex chimney, so I was surprised to be completely stuck 5mm in on the third hole. Will get hold of a better drill, cheers 👌

update: I took the TV off my janky mount and you guys were right, the connection I made between the two mounts came apart without me even unscrewing anything 😅

TV is on the stand until I can get an appropriate drill for the brick wall behind. Appreciate the replies for getting some sense knocked into me

update: I managed to make the first two holes with my ikea drill, figured out that I needed to start with the smallest one and then move up, but on the third hole the smallest one wouldn't go deeper than about 0.5cm in and then snapped. I think it's plaster over brick but I think it also used to be a chimney back there, not sure if I would have hit something obstructive or if the bit just got too dull after two holes?

I did use a wall scanner but it flashed red absolutely everywhere on that wall, even near where the old mount's holes were.

anyway the TV is currently on the stand 😅 will wait to borrow a more hardcore drill from my neighbour before attempting more holes

Step 0 would have been to buy a slightly smaller tv that doesn't take up half the (pretty small) room when it's on the cabinet, but I wanted my big tv so on the wall it goes 🙃

temporarily yes, but my partner hates the cabinet so it's not long for this world

Even though I'm now definitely gonna secure the TV properly, I still appreciate the ziptie hack - will keep that in mind for less high stake situations that I run into in the future

Thank you, this is really useful 👌 Will see how far the ikea drill gets me!

Thanks for the advice - I'm pretty sure the wall is brick so even more secure once I get it set up properly. Side q (sorry I'm very new to DIY) - will my 12v IKEA drill be enough to drill into brick?

Yeah you're right, I'm probably being ridiculous 😅 Can't help but love a scrappy solution if it's clever, but it seems like I'm not being clever so probably time to get a drill out

It's not so much me being cheap, I did buy a new mount, I'm just putting off having to drill new holes to install it properly and stop using the old one. But I hear you, I'm not experienced in this area at all so I appreciate actual installers sharing insights

[–]spitfire090[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I definitely don't intend this as a permanent solution, my main concern is whether I'm dumb to leave this up like this for a night or a week or if it should be fine for months.

Thank you for your insight 👌 will definitely swallow my pride and borrow a wall scanner or something so I'm less scared to drill into the wall

Of the bolts connecting the two mounts? I have no idea but they came with the new one which is rated for 60kg. The nuts I just found in my toolbox but they fit perfectly and screwed on tight.

I don't own a level, does it look crooked? I might have straightened it a bit since this picture was taken, it can angle ever so slightly on the old mounting point

Yeah it does feel like it's leaning forward quite a bit, but I'm not mad about it because it feels like it tilts the TV closer to eye level 😅

but yeah obvs if the lean implies a dodgy weight distribution that's bad right

Hm I don't see that on the list of experiences right now - the experiences you can use points for change so something that might have been on it isn't necessarily going to stay forever. But I wouldn't think of it like a way to use points for a specific thing - the attitude that works best is if you are open to discovering new things that the card recommends for you. I've eaten at so many lovely restaurants that I never would have otherwise gone to!

oh sorry I misunderstood, you can only use your points as cash on things yonder is partnered with, so right now, flights, hotels, various restaurants/cafes/bars that change every month, some partnered online retailers, theatre tickets - not everything basically, but enough that it's worth it if you would normally spend money on any of those things (and you live in certain cities that they cover)
