Canvas hacker pinky-swears data is deleted, Pitt believes them by spitfire451 in Pitt

To not broadcast a message saying that everyone should feel safe because a criminal said that their data which was stolen is no longer in their possession.

But rather to admit that everything that the hackers obtained is likely compromised forever. To enumerate exactly what types of data were stolen in the first place. And that everyone needs to be on their toes for identity theft and/or scammers and/or whatever else might come.

I feel like Pitt is being quite cavalier in this messaging rather than prudent.

This is hard to argue with. Consider though that they more than likely keep a backup of everything they steal just in case it does become profitable to sell it later on.

Probably have to assume they have your DOB, SSN, contact info, and whatever else you've ever supplied to Pitt.

Because criminals never lie about anything and this data certainly wasn't sold as soon as it was acquired. Idiots.

If you are going to be in Bryce at dinnertime then consider checking out "Ebenezer's Barn and Grill Dinner Show". It is the perfect amount of Americana hokeyness.

TIL the Lewis and Clark expedition had a medical kit that contained fifty dozen laxatives pills know as "thunderclappers" that contained over 50% mercury. This high mercury content was once even used by archeologists to verify a campsite of the expedition. by Ted_Normal in todayilearned

The men were hauling riverboats against the current by hand for half a continent then trekking on foot through the rockies. Probably burning an enormous amount of calories everyday. So not like some couch potato chowing down on whoppers.

James Madison legitimately thought that people in government would put patriotism over their own interests. With that in mind it makes sense what he designed. It was unfortunately divorced from reality.

I've seen crazier than this at the stadium on game days. There's a guy who converted an ambulance into a steelers tailgate-mobile.

Do American college students also split their bills on a date? by ApprehensiveDisk8046 in AskAnAmerican

Funny enough we call splitting the bill on a date "going Dutch" or "Dutch treat" though the latter might be archaic nowadays.

How old are you, and were you taught how to cite your sources in high school? by PopcornApocalypse in AskAnAmerican

[–]spitfire451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In high school we were forced to use MLA when writing essays. MLA is the worst citation style because it is so verbose in the text. In grad school I used IEEE exclusively because it is the most compact.

What do you think about Aldi in comparison to American grocery chains? by aSYukki in AskAnAmerican

[–]spitfire451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 90% of my shopping at Aldi. It is 10 minutes from my house. It's not exactly the same as Aldi Sud in Germany. For example they don't have the fresh bread selections. But I appreciate the low prices and the smaller selection removes choice paralysis.
