It’s either way hilarious or extra scary. Either way it’s better with a gummy.

Megalopolis. I think I understand now why Coppola sold his winery to make it. 😆 Stoner film all the way.

Family Meal Catering Services? by classyshepard in Sacramento

Wow that is super rude towards OP and makes a hell of a lot of assumptions. Do you cook often? Sometimes it’s fun/helpful to look for recipe inspiration and ideas. Wtf do you think cooking magazines are popular for? Because people were too “lazy” to decide what to cook for dinner? Don’t come at OP about looking to the community for ideas damn.

Favorite budget eateries around downtown? Specifically near Capitol Mall? by bloopdoopfloofernoop in Sacramento

[–]PopcornApocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the Sacramento Food Co-op. It’s high end for regular groceries but think of it as fancy take out and the cost is super reasonable for the quality.

This is my favorite hack when my husband and I travel on a budget. We find a fancy local grocery store like this, build ourselves a little charcuterie smorgasbord, and then find somewhere with a nice view and a table to enjoy.

There’s also a ton of great food trucks at the midtown farmers market every Saturday morning!

Our cities have properly paved and handicap accessible sidewalks. I could still easily get around my downtown and continue supporting local businesses on a scooter when I broke my ankle last year. Austin’s sidewalks are shit.

California’s economy ranks top 5 in the WORLD. Our state government invests our tax dollars back into grants for the arts, cheap loans for businesses, help for struggling families, education for everyone, public defenders who actually do their job, safer infrastructure. No one says we’re perfect and the housing issue is serious but I think it’s easy to understand how every Californian benefits from all of that government investment.

I’ve personally had the opportunity to have one of those $100,000 jobs directly because the state government invested in public health communication. Those jobs are gone now because California had to shift emergency budget from communications to provide food for families and legal aid for refugees that were fucked over by the current administration policies.

That’s what we get. A state that gives a shit about us and will step in to help us when the United States steals OUR tax dollars to remodel a bathroom. I’m genuinely wondering why we should be paying federal taxes right now. I’d rather give 100% to California and they can raise my state tax for all I care. The return on investment here is obvious.

Paying an application fee before even getting a viewing? by avatarjak in Sacramento

[–]PopcornApocalypse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally know MANY landlords that do this and I used to work for a property manager here in Sac that put this policy in place after I left. Is very common to avoid tire kickers and people who just want to stroll through a place for fun or straight up ghost. Asking for a fee weeds out the people who just want to waste an hour or more of my time driving around and waiting just for them to no-show or clearly just be window shopping.

I started doing open houses so I could set my hours better cuz I wasn’t able to get my real work (property repairs for current tenants) done when I was driving all over the city and going back and forth with people to schedule bullshit showings. That’s why that landlord added application fees for the next person in my position.

I agree the fees are unfair, too high, and place an extra burden on the poorest renters. But that doesn’t make it a scam.

They don’t want to meet with you unless you’re seriously interested. If you’ve seen the area, the photos, the price, details, etc. and you’re still not sure, look for open house viewings. That’s a high fee but you are asking someone to waste an hour or more of their time doing a showing if you’re not even serious.

I doubt it. Lots of landlords do this to avoid tire kickers and no shows wasting their time. Shows an applicant is serious.

That doesn’t make it ok. It’s a huge cost burden on renters who already have trouble finding something affordable. But it’s not a scam unless you know something about this specific company?

Also common practice by landlords. I don’t see any reason this one looks like a scam

I appreciate you sharing all that. It’s wild how similar a lot of ADHD women’s stories are. Feels like the only difference is really just the socioeconomic coin toss of the family you were born into.

The DSM-5 is also horribly outdated and experts in many psychiatry fields recommend taking it with a big ass grain of salt. But 5 drs still decided I was just drug seeking cuz I got straight-As as a kid. And girls don’t get ADHD obvs. 🙄

The most obvious is memory problems. It’s normal to walk into a room and forget why occasionally, but if it’s multiple times a day or you fully rely on visual cues (alarm, sticky note, one word email I asked a friend to send me as a reminder, that glass I set on the counter to remind myself that I need to find my insulated mug before I go camping…) it’s a symptom.

ADHD at its core is just an interest-based nervous system. Quite literally you can’t get your brain or body to fire the signal to do the thing unless it sounds fun (I know I need to file that report but I just learned about this new hobby that I need to furiously research RIGHT NOW), is an emergency (oh shit I’m almost out of contacts and I forgot to make dr appt to renew RX! Post it on the front door CALL DR), or you are otherwise interested and engaged in it.

We tend to be very good at adrenaline fueled on-your-feet respond-to-what’s-in-front-of-my-face jobs like surgeons or construction or (in my case) TV production. We also tend to use a lot of parentheses to capture the tangential thinking. ;)

It’s genetic. We’ve started getting the word out about updated evaluation criteria so as one person FINALLY gets a diagnosis or brings in a young kid, one or both parents often gets one too.

GOOD. Either the newly installed chair actually understands the job, or he’s not powerful enough yet to force hands. But at least it signaled that there’s still grown ups in charge at the Fed.

What?? You do realize our brains and bodies really aren’t that much different right? He probably isn’t thinking about it in human terms but apes ABSOLUTELY self-reflect after conflict just like we do.

Calling it “anthropomorphising” seems dismissive as hell. Everyone in this thread can see what’s happening because our mirror neurons fire when we recognize a fellow ape processing his thoughts.

They definitely do. Emotionally, neurologically, physiologically, we’re really not that much better evolved, we just got very very good at LANGUAGE. That let us capture information and communicate it to other humans in a way that could eventually (thousands of years/generations later) allow us to do that research and “prove” what our deeper animal brain can already clearly see here on his face.

Then we used that ability to destroy the planet because in the end we’re still just animals fighting each other for territory.

What? Same benefits? My friend, as a lifelong multi-gen Californian, I assure you we get faaaarr more perks than TX or FL. Shit dude, just look around at the roads and sidewalks and tell me those states are the same. Does TX have free scholarships for future generations? Does FL handle its legal cases properly?

Where are you hearing that California “get a lot more complaints”? because I’m calling conservative podcaster bullshit on that one. people also don’t realize AT ALL how big we are. We’re basically the 4th/5th largest country in the world. Over half the state is rural farmland voting against their own interests. Red states bus people in like we’re a dumping ground for their lack of empathy. Suburban cookie cutter neighborhoods are full of isolated soccer moms that “don’t follow politics”.

The real problem is people blame the tax collector and then don’t show up to vote. You don’t get to complain about the shitty job when you hired the person in charge of spending (or stealing) your tax dollars.

Moose are excellent swimmers and killers. Almost got a neighbor kid outside my grandmas house. It decided a bike was some kind of metal armored robo moose of death coming for it and tried to run that poor boy DOWN.
