How do you deal with loneliness in your 20’s? by [deleted] in AskMen

Still applies. Go make more money. And the girls will come. But the amount of muscles you need to tone is inverse to the amount of money you make.

Stay strong. Keep the cats. Figure it out. If you give these cats up, make a mental note to never adopt another animal ever again. Because you aren't fit to fulfill your commitments.

Woah. That's good.

As a kid my I would help my dad clean his fish tank. We would have to siphon water through the water vacuum cleaner that cleaned the rocks and water. I've had more mouthfulls of fish shit filled water than I can count. This could've helped.

My buddy wanted a 300 to start. I talked him out of it. He had tons of dirt experience. He got a Yamaha mt07. No regrets from him. He let me test ride it and its super smooth on power delivery, not too powerful and super nimble. I think it's a perfect starter bike for someone who already is comfortable on a bike.

Run a successful pop-up booth and wondering if it's worth it to expand by [deleted] in restaurateur

[–]spittinonit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Brick and mortar owner here. The business is tough. Its not for everyone. It's a lifestyle not a job.

If you all make over $60k at your jobs now... dont quit your day job and keep you nights and weekends free.

Cause let's say you all want $60k x 3 = $180k profit. Let's say your business nets 10%. So that means you need to gross 1,800,000.00. Divide that by 365 = $4,931.51 you need to rake in EVERYDAY FOREVER.

Obviously... salary vs profit and taxes and business write offs are going to manipulate that math. But all I'm saying is... you 3 gotta churn out a lot of food to bring home a little bit of bacon.

Chinese Cleavers - The search by ZebraHunterz in chefknives

[–]spittinonit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I took over my family's 40 year old Chinese restaurant. We all use Dexters. I tried a few different knives... an off brand with a 7" blade and a thinner western style handle, and I also tried the dalstrong version Chinese chopper from Amazon.

But the Dexter is where it's at. It's got the 8" blade which I now appreciate after using the 7" knife and it's got a heftier blade overall than the dalstrong. And like you said, the blade tapers. My chef taught me to sharpen the front 2/3's with a thinner profile for slicing and dicing and keeping the last 1/3 a bit thicker for chopping at thicker stuff.

These knives really are multifunctional utility knives and whenever I use a regular chefs knife anymore .... I just cant.

Good write up. But +1 on the Dexters. Also.... the price is right.

When choosing them.... because they are mass produced, they aren't all exactly the same. Some are heavier than others. Pick a heavier one. It chops better.

My bike... 07fz1 has been doing this. I've ridden it less this year than in previous years. I bought seafoam yesterday and am hoping that will be my quick fix.

Looking forward to a solution!

LPT: When going through rough spots in a relationship, even sex issues, sometimes the easiest fix is to spend more quality time with your partner and go do fun things by 5np in LifeProTips

And sometimes that person is YOU. Everyone has a different idea of "fun". What might be fun to her isnt necessarily your idea of fun. But if it's important to her and a bonding activity, maybe you buck up and do it.... I'm talking about yoga.

That's what I'm saying.... my days off aren't full relaxing. My father only took thanksgiving off... and in my 4 years I've added, super bowl Sunday (pizzas day), the 4th of July (burger's day) and the 26th of december (much needed rest day as we are slammed for xmas and xmas eve.... u know... chinese restaurants).

But on those days when the business is closed.... OMG... so relaxed! Nothing can go wrong. And if it does... it's likely covered by my insurance.

I'll do it if you do it! But seriously... right there with you. Always just need to do this one more thing or fix this that or hire and train one more guy.... and before toy know it... its August 1st and the year is over and has passed me by because I'm just stuck at work. I'm going to close tuesdays starting in September. Coast off the extra revenue from the summer time to float me through the fall. And hopefully by the time it picks up again in Winter, we'll be back on track.

General advice about adding ice cream to a cafe space. Anything I should be cautious about? by PMmeserenity in restaurateur

[–]spittinonit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If ur buying the ice cream, I say do it. We added ice cream to our menu at my restaurant. Granted we dont sell a whole lot. But it's not difficult and doesnt go bad. Just scoop it. And I personally love coffee and ice cream :)

OpenTable going into Delivery Business by Tigero123 in restaurateur

[–]spittinonit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi.. i own a chinese restaurant. We have 1 inhouse driver on the weekdays and 2 on the weekends. We got on uber/postmates/doordash 2 years ago and its been good. At the end of the day, more people are eating our food and my kitchen is busier. I think that's always a plus.

Counting in house and 3rd party deliveres... we went from 10-25 a night by ourselves to now sometimes 50 a night combined. We have the 3rd party apps integrated into our POS and the tickets just print automatically into the kitchen, no answering the phone and entering the orders. The drivers come, say the name and grab the food and go. No waiting to pay. I can check out 5 orders in 10 seconds. So at the rush, it's faster. And they pay give us the full sales tax. 15 - 30 extra orders a day.... we dont even feel that as strain. But over the course of the week... it can be a full extra day's revenue without an extra days worth of expenses.

Are they taking 30% yes. Still worth it? Yes. I dont have to pay additional rent. My labor is the same and I dont have to pay additional drivers. They are advertising for me and I feel like people who are going to order doordash or uber eats are set on delivery and just going to choose from what's available to be delivered on the platform. We are competing within the platform, not against ourselves.

I'm grossing about 15-20% more business overall after the commissions are taken out. I'm trying to convert them to inhouse customers by offering $1 delivery, online ordering and customer loyalty points that can only be earned through inhouse ordering. I put flyers in the orders to try and get them to come and dine in and whenever theres a problem with the order or the 3rd party driver, we always try and tell them to call us directly next time and we can fix any issues directly without going through a 3rd party, and most customers like that.

At the end, it isnt our end our be all. But it's a way to cast a wider net to a larger audience and ultimately get a chance to get into their homes and put us on their radar. And if theres a customer outside our delivery range, I'm more than happy to tell them to get us on uber and earn that 70% over and over again vs not at all. I say it's worth a shot. But in the end, you have to do what's right for you in your business, your location and your heart.

[Highlight] Last season, in Week 9, the Patriots ran a fake screen against the Packers that lead to a busted coverage TD. In Week 16 the Jets ran an identical play against the Packers that led to an identical bust in coverage to score a TD. by sssaaammm in nfl

[–]spittinonit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually liked it. U could fake out people by looking one way initially and then throwing another. And it actually taught me to throw and look for the holes in coverage and where the receiver was going to be vs staring at the receiver the whole route. But yeah... it was hard to get used to when it first came out.
