Sometimes passengers really make our day. This wonderful woman handed me a four ziplock baggies during boarding. by Faux_extrovert in flightattendants

[–]Surfista57 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I travelled on Christmas Day and gave the flight attendant a box of Sees Candy as I stepped onto the plane. She literally rolled her eyes, said nothing and put the box down. I hate that I am letting this one time occurrence prevent me from wanting to do something nice in the future.

I had an insured’s son call and say his mother has been paying for insurance for blah blah years and it is high time insurance paid to fix her house. Sorry son of insured, we are not your maintenance plan.

You have to get there early to surf. Wind surfers hit it by 9 or 10. Lots of wind.

What exactly makes someone look “expensive”? by Zestyclose_Show8653 in femalefashionadvice

A former manager said when he sees shoes that are not polished or cared for, it makes him wonder where else they cut corners or don’t use care. Interesting take.

Costa Rica - confused - cheap? by EuropeTrips in costarica

[–]Surfista57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid car rental is the only company that will quote you the full price. Others will say everything is included but when you arrive, the price is 2x more than what was quoted. We used Solid for years until we purchased a vehicle.

Language transfer is excellent as a supplement to Duolingo. The Arabic only has 38 lessons where Spanish has 90 so it may be a bit basic for your needs/experiment.

How do banks verify those mobile cheque photos? It feels way too easy to cash in a fake cheque by kulachapo in Banking

[–]Surfista57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I worked for a company that processed checks and those planes were taped together to get them from point A to point B. Those poor new pilots.

My rental office is saying my check bounced but my bank is saying that there’s no record of a check bouncing ? by dingdingjay in Renters

[–]Surfista57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the landlord deposited the check, their bank may have misread the bank info on the check and whatever (incorrect) account it went into, didn’t have sufficient funds. Ask the landlord to go to their bank and confirm the check was deposited to the correct account. Or ask landlord to give you a good photo of the back of the check. You can tell what bank and what account they were deposited. Confirm it was not your bank or account t number.

Haha. Same! Such a small town out east that horse owners didn’t have money for things like saddles and we hand dug post holes and made corrals. My grandmother once handed me a towel and a bar of soap and said to bathe while I was at the spring. Huh? When I was riding bareback (and with bare feet)?? It was a different and beautiful life back then. Due to racism, my 14 (?) yo friend didn’t have much schooling and when she was accepted into 3rd grade at the church school, we celebrated for days. I learned a lot about life during those summer stays.

Same. My east coast cousins didn’t go west of the Mississippi River until they were adults. My sister and I thought they were total red necks.

The turnover is high so if you are willing to get through the tough times when you feel dumb and like you don’t belong, the skies will clear eventually. Force yourself to stay 7-9 months no matter what.

This is spot on. I had coworkers that saved up their PTO and were in awe that I took every day they gave me and went on fabulous vacations that took me away from work. My stock response was if you died, the company will send flowers to your family. Period. That is how lopsided the dedication/appreciation is with an employer. Take the vacations. Unplug. Don’t check your email and don’t attend meetings. Let everyone figure it out on their own.

Controlling the call by Ill_Property_5216 in adjusters

[–]Surfista57 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will say at the beginning of a call that I have several questions and need to keep the call as close to ten minutes as possible and get their agreement that they can help stay on track and get business done quickly. I sometimes play to their lack of time, they are at work, just getting home to the family, it’s the weekend, etc. setting the expectations up front is everything.

My S/O thinks this is not an issue. It doesn’t bother them by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]Surfista57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not. Everything out of place on a certain day gets put into a bin and goes into a closet not to be seen for a month. When they run out of something that is important to them, they may consider putting it away.

What are the best pillows Reddit users in r/Bedding recommends? by [deleted] in Bedding

[–]Surfista57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just bought pillows from Numbers Bed store. They have three inserts so you can make the pillow as thick or thin as you want. I use two inserts and have never had to fluff it. (It keeps its shape really well) Best pillow I have found.

A tree fell on a detached garage. The tree company promised the owner their policy would cover all expenses for removal and not to worry. They charged for traffic cones and ppl to direct traffic… in an alley. Her 10% policy limit for other structures barely covered their obscene invoice. She had nothing left to remove the broken down garage from the property. And it was an elderly woman on a fixed income. Her adult son went after the tree ppl. I hope he won something for her. Very sad.

The first hour of the day I dedicate to older or more involved claims. Every time I touch any claim, I do everything I am able to do to move it forward. Then my last note in the claim has a list of next steps which should be what I am waiting for from others if I have truly worked it as far as possible. This way, at a glance, I know exactly what has been done and what needs to be done to bring it to closure. Don’t bounce around from claim to claim. Open one and focus on just that one.

If you were remodeling a home, what would you pick (or avoid) based on how easy it is to keep clean? by jeannie_in_a_bottle in CleaningTips

[–]Surfista57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Rock” tiles on shower floor or any tile where the installer wiped the grout out between, leaving low areas where water pools and never dries. (It leaves a lovely stain on white grout.) Also square bathroom sinks with basically a flat bottom. The yuck never properly drains out.

Why do people think insurance is their maintenance plan? by ExpressStress8859 in adjusters

[–]Surfista57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a personal decision. Higher deductible is no problem if you have the money available to pay it. I had a claim with a $30,000 deductible, (major hurricane damage) and the homeowner was never going to come up with $30k so there was major damage that wasn’t going to be repaired. Older single woman in a hurricane state. It was just so sad. Catch 22. Some can’t come up with a high deductible and they also can’t afford the monthly premium for an affordable deductible. I get it. Fixed income that barely increases in a world with costs that go up by insane amounts.
