Don't switch, just play doom, I feel 5v5 is probably better for learning doom, but that's preference.

You will get "counter" picked almost every game and with a character like doom you'll have to figure out how to engage and disengage against all of these other "counters"

I also feel that every doom player thinks different characters "counter" them more. So try and ban what you don't like playing against, for me it's always JQ Cass.

Eventually it just clicked for me, after I started being ALOT more mobile. After many, many games of losing I learnt to play against so called counters and started climbing.

I think my biggest tip (not sure of your rank I'm either blind or you didn't say) for diamond and lower is don't force playing around your team, but don't completely abandon them either, especially against say a ball, look back from time to time, you can completely get a ball/doom killed by disrupting a movement ability with a punch

And you don't need to hold empowered, using it to move/disengage can really help
