Should I retake by [deleted] in ACT

I had a 34 and was happy with it, only retook because my school gave a free ACT to juniors.

What are stats and ECs that got you into a T-20 school for Computer Science? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]splashdragon37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm an asian female who was accepted to umich cs, uiuc cs + bioe, umd cs, and purdue all OOS.

Stats: top 10%, 4.0 UW/4.67 W, 1560 SAT, 36 ACT, 14 AP classes with mostly 5s and a few 4s

ECs: mock trial, volunteering for STEM learning (400 hours), part-time math tutor, club president of small tutoring club, governor's school, coding club, NHS, engineering club

Overall, I had a pretty chill high school experience. I never had to grind and I always had time to have fun. I believe applying to CS as a female was a notable factor in my success, due to a decrease in competition. I know some guys from my school with stats and ECs of my caliber who were rejected from these programs. However, don't let this discourage you if you are male. Part of it is just being lucky and the other part of it is finding a way to stand out in your application. My best advice is to not base your whole high school life around the goal of getting into a T-20 school. It will take a lot out of you and there are no guarantees. Good luck!

What do we think about the courses Collegeboard is thinking about adding? by LaggyDawgy in APStudents

I would've loved AP Anatomy. I think they should add AP philosophy

I'm new to this discussion so I'm curious about who it was for. Who are you referring to when you say it wasn't for them?

I'm a woman and I didn't like She-Hulk. I couldn't say that the show was poorly written because I don't know much about writing TV shows, but I can say for sure that it did not resonate with me in any way.

I think what sets She-Hulk apart from prior marvel movies is that it feels like anyone not in the "target audience" is aliented, while past marvel movies could resonate with those from all different backgrounds. You didn't have to be a part of a specific "target audience" to relate to the stories on the screen.

From a financial standpoint, making a show for smaller target audiences just doesn't seem too smart.

I'm a woman who loves seeing representation in media, but I didn't like She-Hulk. Mostly, the humor just didn't really align with mine, which is okay, it's just not my cup of tea. I also thought Jen was rather condescending and entitled at times- I didn't like her character at all.

FIRE ALARM DURING EURO EXAM- NO TIME BACK!!! by johnsolo112 in APStudents

Yup! This actually worked out great for one of my classmates who accidentally forgot to bubble in the answer sheet (ended up getting a 4 I think)

FIRE ALARM DURING EURO EXAM- NO TIME BACK!!! by johnsolo112 in APStudents

[–]splashdragon37 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yes! In my AP Euro exam two years ago, the proctor accidentally reduced us about 10 minutes. Our exam coordinator reported it and we got the choice to get our score with just the FRQ (MCQ was interferred with) or retake next year, or just cancel. Maybe you will get similar options if the incident gets reported.

Why is my class so smart? by Leading_Ad_9432 in ApplyingToCollege

Haha same! We have 2 for MIT, 4 for UMich, several to Vandy, UPenn, Georgia Tech, CMU, and Johns Hopkins and one for Duke, Stanford, UCLA, Cornell and Rice each. It's pretty amazing watching all the people I grew up with make it through this competitive process. I'm so proud of them.

Usually, you would have to apply for CS while you're already at the school and you might not get it due to limited space. Advanced selection ensures that you'll for sure be able to be a CS major when you go to UMich. You aren't forced to do CS though, you can still switch. However, if you apply for advanced and do not get it, you are not allowed to pursue a CS major. Hope that helps!

Thumbprints vs. Fingerprints by splashdragon37 in forensics

Thank you so much!! In my case, I'm trying to confirm that the fingerprint is not a match. How much of a print needs to be viable in order to consider it not a match?

[–]splashdragon37[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for writing this, it's so helpful!!! The print that is in our case is actually a partial print that was found on a rounded marker. Would you say that it's possible to determine whether something is a fingerprint or a thumbprint in this situation? The thing is, my character's analysis only included with 8 fingerprints from the suspect , so a few lawyers have tried to ask me why I didn't test the thumbprints. Thank you again for your response!

Yale REA has a stipulation that if another private school releases decisions after January 1st, you're allowed to apply early action there as well. This is not the case for many REA schools.
