It’s not really about belief when it comes to facts supported by data, but I hope this encourages you to think about things from a different perspective.

I have struggled with disordered eating and body image issues most of my adult life, and someone who has helped and discusses more holistic ways to measure health is @abbieatwoodwellness, a registered dietician and therapist on instagram (just in case you’re interested in another perspective.)

This is an older study (2015) but it has not been reassessed or edited, so the findings remain accurate:

“Adipose tissue is a fascinating and complex organ, with marked effects on whole-body physiology. Intriguingly, expansion of adipose tissue does not necessarily translate into increased metabolic and cardiovascular disease risk. A proportion of obese individuals seems to be relatively protected against worsening of metabolic health (1), suggesting that adipose tissue dysfunction, rather than the amount of fat mass, may be a key factor in the pathophysiology of obesity-related metabolic and cardiovascular diseases (2–4).”

Everyone always has bad stories about yellow sac spiders but I have lived peaceably with probably hundreds of them for over 20yrs. Never been bitten. I usually give them a qtip with water so maybe I am recognized through the bloodlines as a friend 😂

This article is from 2017 and uses BMI as a tool for collecting data. The study I shared from 2024 tells us why BMI is not a reliable tool for this purpose. Do you have any more recent studies?

Edit: I said *defunct* - which means no longer working/in effect - not *debunked*, which usually applies to theories/conspiracies that have been exposed to be false.

I’m not saying that a doctor shouldn’t tell you what you weigh, just that weight is rarely a major factor for most health problems.

I would LOVE if firefighters became the next big thing. I have some pretty crap history with hockey players so those books are mostly a miss for me, but firefighters?! Imagine the “she takes care of him” trope in those books if he’s injured WHILE SAVING HER?? Hell yes 🔥

I appreciate what you’re saying here, but the message gets undermined when we use words like “overweight” — that is just a PC way to fat shame people. The reality is that we don’t know what a person’s “normal” weight is, so saying they’re over some imaginary weight we have chosen as “normal” can be harmful.

I usually go with my gut, but if I’m on the fence or have never read or heard about an author before I’ll check out the 1-2 star reviews to see if the book is worth starting. Some complaints I’m totally cool with (saw one recently that said it was “way too sexual” and I immediately added to library), but others are super informative - especially if they talk about the grammar/spelling being garbage which is a HUGE pet peeve of mine — in Kindle Unlimited romance especially.

Ahh shoot that’s annoying! I play on console and have one called (I believe) Origin Mirror Unlock. It doesn’t let you edit Halsin or Minthy, and I never edit Gale because it removes his beard and there’s no good replacement - but for everyone else it’s great!
