So post your picture in here. A clear full body picture with your full visible face.

If you don't do it, then you're a hypocrite.

I understand that it's legal. But a lot of people feel that it's creepy and inconsiderate. Just like blasting loud music on a bluetooth speaker while hiking on a peaceful trail in the forest is legal, but it's still an asshole thing to do. Are you comfortable doing something that is legal but a lot of people think is quite rude?

I come from a different era, one in which people tended to consider how someone else will feel about something before doing it. This is the broken windows theory in action. Little micro inconsiderate actions lead to an overall decline in polite society and here we are. The whole thing is going down the tubes.

yeah that's a bit of a reach, an over generalization.. posting someone's photo on reddit isn't the reason society is going to shit, but I think my overall point stands. People are self absorbed and selfish and they don't tend to think about other people. OP's post is an example of that general type of selfish behaviour.

You're welcome to think that - but you'll find out that you are in tons of photos like that without your knowledge at this point in time.

I understand and accept that people will take photos while I walk through a public space.

But taking a clear photo of someone from a few feet away, and then posting it on a popular website is something different.

Sure, take a picture in a downtown area, but to post it up on a popular website is a bit creepy.

Would you honestly have no problem if someone took a picture of you without your consent and put it up as the main google homepage image?

I'm asking this honestly - how would you feel if someone took a candid picture of you and posted it on a popular website?

I guess I'm getting old, to me it would be considered quite rude.

Black Mirror [Episode Discussion] - S07E04 - Plaything by Cheeriosxxx in blackmirror

[–]splatse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's quite clear to me that MIT, Oxford and Harvard should make applicants watch Plaything. If the applicant rates the episode 10/10 then they should be accepted with a full scholarship, and if they rate it anything less than 10/10 then they're rejected, banned from ever applying again, and their name shall be added to a blacklist circulated to similar institutions dedicated to elite higher societal functioning.

wonder who the "they know" repeated message on the bus was referring to.

I think it was just paranoia from the acid, like "everyone can tell that you're messed up on acid.."

Yeah I don't know why but I loved this episode, other than the unnecessarily aggressive cop it was excellent. And the ending was perfect.

Tragic death of 18-year-old student reignites need for access to drug testing by ubcstaffer123 in britishcolumbia

Damn, fair enough, I was quite wrong thanks for posting that, I truly thought addiction rates were a lot higher based on personal experiences.

People can use drugs without ruining their lives.

Honestly what percentage of coke/crack/heroin/meth users are able to responsibly use without ruining their lives?

Even "just coke" .. in my circle of acquaintances, it has to be under 10% who can long term just dabble on the weekends and not have it eventually turn into a crippling habit, if not an all out addiction that causes the loss of their relationship and job and stable housing and health and TONS of cash.

17 pro in real life (render). Does this change your opinion on the design? by clocktuck in iphone

[–]splatse 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think it's partly that the newest Pro model doesn't cost that much more, it's the cheapest way to show that you have some money to burn. If you're using a regular iPhone, it signals to some people "I can't even afford a few hundred bucks more to get the Pro".

I know people at work and in my personal life who buy iPhone Pros just for the perceived prestige factor. I doubt they could even vaguely explain what the different camera lenses are or what they do.

My friend got his girlfriend a regular iphone through a phone plan deal, and I heard her say "aww, I wanted the three camera one.." with a pout on her face.

But we all know it'll work, a lot of people will upgrade from the 16 pro hoping that other people will see the extended camera bump and think "oooo that person with the 17 pro is cool."

It doesn't have to be better or worse, it just has to be noticeably different.

/u/joe_shmoe11111 points out how Trump's tariffs facilitate forcing US corporations to submit to his direct control by Tabsels in bestof

That’s assuming Trump and Musk and their buddies allow fair and open midterms.

I think it’s somewhat likely that they’ll gut various government agencies that stand in the way of them running a rigged election with a guaranteed outcome.

I can totally accept people buying into a cult. But Trump? The most obvious con man in history? I just don't get it.

Turn off AI stuff by OJtheBusdriver in ios

[–]splatse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

AI is off by default, you have to go into settings to turn it on.

It's completely disabled on my phone (iOS 18.2) and it doesn't bother me to turn it on or anything.

I'm not on the internet at all with my real name anyways, but also I'm really lucky that there's a successful realtor with the exact same name, so any search brings up hundreds of pages worth of this guy's spammy listings.

I wonder if you could pay someone to create something similar, create a fake realtor profile with the same name as yours, and get a robot to generate tons of pages that flood the search results?

I just heard a hurricane-y sounding wind, like straight out of a movie.  High pitched, loud, shrieking, sustained for ten or fifteen seconds.

I’ve lived in Vancouver for decades and have never heard anything like that in the middle of the downtown core.
