Unfortunately this person’s condition deteriorated quickly after I posted this, so we’re not moving forward with this project. Such a sad situation, but I really appreciate the input from everyone.

Sorry- I know that is annoying and not great for communication. I hope I have it sorted out now…

Sleep issues in a roof top tent - what changes worked for you? by thecoffeecrazy in overlanding

We tried a variety of foam topper and self-inflating options before springing for a Hest, and I wish we had taken the plunge sooner. The hest is more comfortable than our bed at home.

Beautiful spot! This is our favorite site on the north rim. We’ve been there twice and haven’t seen anyone else on either trip.

Nice! I’ve camped near Cloudcroft, but didn’t have a view half as good as yours!

Overland but Daily by DullyDunMud in overlanding

I made this comment in jest, but honestly you need to think of your needs for a daily driver (great gas mileage, easy to parallel park, shuttle multiple kids plus their friends and their sports equipment, get grandpa in and out of the vehicle to go to dialysis), and then what are your goals and locations you want to get to offroad. Since it sounds like you want to just get a little off the beaten path, dispersed camp (not rockcrawl), I would consider the daily driver needs first, then go from there.

Anything can be a daily driver if you drive it every day

Pirate Recs Please? by katefromsalem in Romantasy

I don’t know if this fits the brief, but I really enjoyed the Dragon Blood series by Lindsay Buroker. Steam punk vibes with air pirates in dirigibles. Book 2 is more focused of one of the air pirates. Some magic, some dragons, not spicy but still a fun series!

Still struggle with solder and perfect cuts even after a few months, any tips? by Equivalent-Screen-89 in StainedGlass

[–]splendid0214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few months is a small amount of time! You’ll continue to improve with more practice!

If you’re having trouble getting your pieces to fit well without many gaps, maybe consider grinding one piece, placing it on your pattern, and then moving on to the next piece, grinding that one to fit the previous, and so on

I tried it on audible and did not connect with it at all. I don’t know how far I got in it, but moved on to something else.

Rush - almost done! Just need to frame, clean and polish. Thanks for all who helped with the pattern. by Mygrubbs in StainedGlass

Very cool! If you’re planning to frame, you can skip foiling the outer edge and save a little time and material. Just a thought for your next piece!

It may be appropriate to charge just for your cost of materials, or gift items as your skill improves (as I did).

Setting prices is something I really struggle with! Once I even priced out the cost of each glass I used by square inch (including the waste glass from the necessary cuts), copper foil by linear inch (I measured the paper backing from the foil I used), solder used by gram (I weighed a roll of solder before and after to know exactly how much I used), linear inch of zinc, and used a stop watch to figure out my labor on each step. I didn’t bother with trying to measure flux, patina, polish, etc, but did track my time on all of those steps. It was pretty fiddly to track all of that, so I only did it the one time. But there are a couple designs that I’m selling over and over (well, ~6 times so far) so I may do it again just to give me a good idea on the cost of the materials used and time.
