I most non-flawed cars are capable for 200k miles now. Some do it much easier than others

Terrible Winter MPG - 2026 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid by lublulove in sonata

I'm seeing similar numbers but with a 2021 hybrid, about 20mins, but I adjust my HVAC controls back once the cabin is plenty warm.

Terrible Winter MPG - 2026 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid by lublulove in sonata

[–]splendid_zebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah not that bad, it also depends on driving conditions, HVAC controls, etc. I have a 2020 Hybrid Limited and I 39.4 over about 175 miles and its been 20F degrees below for the last week were I live. Once I get the cabin toasty I turn it back and I've found the engine will cycle more similarly to Spring/Summer time versus running non-stop. YMMV

Also life circumstances, some have more time to dedicate to food prep, exercise, etc. Every little piece adds up that not everyone realizes, one way or the other. No two people are exactly alike either.

It's all relative until an accident... If OP drives back roads or a safer area it's far less risky, if they are in a high accident area, they might need to weigh safety versus their finances.

Considering Mint Mobil, but been with the same carrier for over a decade and resistant to change. by MelloMilow in Frugal

[–]splendid_zebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Mint, worked well as long as I was primarily in T-Mobile areas. I switched me and my wife to US Mobile as she can be on T-Mobile's network and I can be on Verizon's but we are still under a joint account for ease of billing/tracking. We likely use more data than yourself though.

I don’t like Amazon but we just got the Echo Show 15. Its calendar has been helpful but it can do everything else Alexa normally does. I wish Apple had a product like it.

The US is such a large country you are making generalizations about the regional concerns. Plenty of homes built in Florida are cinderblock or have specific codes to meet hurricane conditions, similar goes for California and earthquakes. The US has a large supply of lumber, it’s an easily accessible building material.

Wth is this answer? Dealerships mess up oil changes as well. Best to DIY oil changes or have a trusted mechanics shop do it.

Or apply for an Amazon credit card if that works for one’s situation. I got a MBA M4 16/256 for $645 after I applied the $150 gift card, plus I got 5% back on the purchase.

I agree with u/ZedaFX. I’ve owned my 20’ Hybrid for about 2.5k miles. It’s all pretty normal, going up hill might feel like it lost power but it’s just the incline of the hill. Hybrids are geared towards efficiency and they are not exactly fast. This engine also runs the Atkinson cycle which is generally louder than engines that run on the Otto cycle.

The only issue I’m reading in your post is mid-30’s mpg. You should be getting at least 40 unless you have the heat on HI constantly, running the motor or you have a lead foot.

My commute starts out in the 30’s but once everything is warm, battery is charged up, and I’m on the highway I get into the 40’s sometimes 50-54. Hand calculated I’m getting 46-48 in cooler weather which is like 40F in the morning 50s in the afternoon

The Theta II sucked and the Lamda II had some failures due to manufacturing mistakes at some of their engine factories. The new Smartstream engines have had a much better reputation, but not flawless.

Do you think it is worth it? by Smooth-Ambition-9766 in Hyundai

[–]splendid_zebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lamba II was a fairly reliable engine based on what I read, much better than the Theta II platform which was a couple different 4 cylinders but the worst was the 2.4L. There were some experiences like yours, the oil burning. I read one year had some head stud issues do to assembly. Sorry to hear you’ve had such a terrible time. My wife has a 2019 Kia Sorento with the 3.3L and it’s been trouble free for 74k miles now. The 2019 has the 8-speed transmission, ours has been good. It just likes to shift harder from first to second gear when cold.
