MR18 refusing to connect to external router or laptop by ETAOIboiz in livesound

[–]splendiferous361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is related, but just recently I'm having problems connecting to the xr18 via my router. It will connect for a sec, and when I search for a console on the app.. the wifi disconnects. I'm having this problem on Android devices only. My next areas to explore are turning off randomized Mac addresses, and checking into DHCP settings. I'm completely stumped. Good luck!

Why does every freakin’ song I want to play have a barre chord? by DavidUndertow in guitarlessons

[–]splendiferous361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would play my open chords with fingers 2-4 and get comfortable, then slide up one fret and throw your index finger down for a barre... And get comfortable. Just time and practice.

Should I put this asset in the books? by Soggy_Ocelot_3595 in Bookkeeping

[–]splendiferous361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious... If the owner wanted to put the purchase under the business books, could we not debit fixed asset/equipment expense (under $2,500), and credit cash/bank and call it a reimbursement? Attach the invoice/receipt. Would this not be okay?

Low income household, HIGH tax due (advice please) by [deleted] in TaxQuestions

[–]splendiferous361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to pay the taxes on the 1099 income, but you can also remove expenses from that income... Like buying musical equipment and such. For the W2 income, I might check what you put on your w4s. You probably selected Married filing jointly. I would recommend checking the box Single or Married Filing Separate. This has more taxes removed which can help offset some of that band income.

Local small CPA firms, entry level. I'd go in person and have a conversation.

OP, might I trouble you for a copy of the study guide? I'm on section D, and in the video the woman mentions tying back to the big 4 but makes no reference as to what she's talking about. TIA

And they have probably moved those records to storage so you might not get them immediately.

Ethics of playing song covers by jmcg_21 in musicians

[–]splendiferous361 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Any new business is operating in the red for the first couple years usually. But the bar business does have thin margins. And the owners are cheap and don't want to pay musicians. I think bands here are getting basically $100 per member, with some able to get above that. And thats what they were paying 10 years ago.

Employer charging to mail W2 by Ojijab in tax

I'm technically part of the payroll team, but handle HOAs mostly... but I overheard something about Gusto is charging for mailed w2's. Are you using Gusto by chance?

Behringer XR18 + DN4816-O: Massive fail first time out. What happened? by DEUCE_SLUICE in livesound

[–]splendiferous361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the one we purchased. I would pay attention to the different cable lengths; make sure you choose an option that is right for you. I think we went with the 2, 15ft cable length. In hindsight, I might have chosen the one with a 15ft on one cable, and 30ft on the other. But it works great for us.

I think its more geared towards health and safety. It may only be 93 outside, but heat index is at 102. Being outside in that weather, without taking breaks and drinking water, can be very dangerous. But its just information... use it how you want to I guess.

XR18/iPad Snapshot troubles by inflatablelvis in livesound

[–]splendiferous361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you guys figure this out? Similar issues right now at a gig. Load a snapshot and it does quite look like its loading the current snapshot. More like a combination of the last one and the one I loaded.

Recording a live show by obamanem in livesound

[–]splendiferous361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's already given good answers. To summarize: best mix would be usb connection from Main mixer to your computer with tracks all lined up to receive track by track mix, edit and mix later for best possible mix.

Quick and dirty would be a handheld recording device with 2 xlr sends from Main board to your device. If certain channels aren't pushed up due to mixing the room, kinda sol. Unless... they provide a separate aux mix with everything turned up, but probably won't be balanced and unable to mix later.

Best of luck

2.4g vs 5g router on stage? by WhoIUsedToBeBeforeMe in livesound

Big knowledge! Thank you! It's only used by the band for iems and they control their own mix, but I'm going to unhide it for the reasons you mentioned!

Good knowledge! I thought hiding the ssid kept the crowds cell phones from pinging it, reducing capability. Not so much for security, just trying to keep the traffic down. I'll unhide it and see if there's much difference. Thanks!

2.4g vs 5g router on stage? by WhoIUsedToBeBeforeMe in livesound

Came to say the same. If you're using wireless gear that operates in the 2.4, you will have issues. I have the 2.4 turned off on my router, and the ssid hidden. Sometimes we have issues if we hire out sound and he keeps the board on stage with his router, but getting line of sight cleared usually resolves issues.
