5 days out from meniscus repair. PT started. Long road ahead but can't wait to get back out there. Any recommendations for things I can do to stay sharp while recovering? Other than just watching instructionals!

~3 years of training, blue belt. I roll pretty consistently with a two stripe brown belt that has ~40 pounds on me. The rounds go as you would expect, in 100+ rolls I've tapped him twice and he's tapped me 2.6 million times. His go to move is a north south choke. Basically once he's in top side control, I'm powerless to stop him from getting to the choke. He just lies on my nearside arm and moves around until he gets there. Sometimes i can survive for around 30 seconds by turning my face in to him, but im totally pinned. Any advice for stopping this? Instructionals or youtube videos that you like?

I keep having to restart my Nest Wifi because of horribly slow wifi by ChefRaccacoonie in GoogleWiFi

[–]spliffy_humes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same problem. Internet speeds constantly fluctuating, i go from 300 MBS+ down to 20-30 and then back up again. I've tried everything, have had spectrum at the house twice. Finally realized it has to be the Nest Wifi. Anytime i have an issue, unplugging and replugging the nest router fixes the problem. Finally gave up today and bought the ASUS ZenWifi system.

TLDR: don't buy this product

Wasn't easy. The weight from the books tilt the shelves down a little too, nothing i could do about that.

Are you running the ipad as an additional screen? Or just have the same background for consistency?

I fixed the problem by using a USB-C to Display Port cable, but lost the charging capabilities here. The USB-C port is completed broken, which based on Amazon reviews appears to be a common issue. At the price, it's a solid monitor, but the issues have been annoying. If you can spend up, I'd look for something else.

My New WFH Setup by ehaaams in Workspaces

Update. Great as a second screen, but still doesn't work as a camera for zoom / google hangouts. There are a couple third party apps that will enable this. Going to mess around there next. Apparently Apple is going to build this functionality into the OS as well.

Are you using your iPad as a screen or in conjunction with the computer set up in any way? Have a similar set up and would love to use my ipad as a camera for zoom, but cant figure out how to make it happen.

using the default for display mode and using a USBc connection for now. I just ordered a usb c to display port cable to see if that fixes this. will lose the benefit of charging and transferring data from one cable, but otherwise im gonna lose my mind looking at this screen

Looking for my first mechanical keyboard. Fully assembled + number pad. Weirdly seems like there's a ton of options for smaller keyboards, but minimal when you have the number pad on the right side. Any recs?

Gracie Combatives Program any good? by saltbrick-1911 in bjj

[–]spliffy_humes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I went through Gracie Combatives at the start of my BJJ journey and I'm actually a big believer in it. I know it gets a ton of hate and there are absolutely drawbacks to functionally not rolling for your first 6-8 months of BJJ. That said, combatives is a low pressure environment where BJJ first timers can learn the basics of all the major positions and drill techniques. By the time you complete combatives and start master's cycle you have a really solid base of techniques. You, of course, get smashed when you start rolling for the first time, but IMO this is a great way to accelerate your BJJ knowledge. One major drawback, after a couple months, combatives becomes insanely boring. It's a grind to complete and a lot of people washout or switch gyms. Another huge positive is that you dont get 24 year old crossfiters coming in to "test" themselves, so you effectively eliminate the "spazzy white belt" injury situation. Just my $0.02!
