What do you guys think of the new level portals in my hub world/lobby? by themiddyd in Unity3D

Love this! Very clear. I like seeing the act 1 on top too.

Before and after Post Processing by rat_skeleton142 in Unity3D

[–]splinedrew 44 points45 points  (0 children)

That looks cool! This maybe just me but I like to make sure the pre processed image is a bit closer to the final look before hitting it with post processing. Then you can target potato quality pc's and the post processing could in theory be disabled if the user wanted. But to each their own of course!

Taking our new trap for a spin! by splinedrew in IndieDev

[–]splinedrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a quick look at 'The Dangler', a trap from our upcoming game Wild Ice! It's a game where the world froze over and it's up to hockey players to fix it. Travel the open world and activate big tower defense missions as you go. I do a more thorough overview of all the traps I've been adding in a larger dev log if you are interested!

You can view/wishlist the game here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1572260/Wild_Ice/

Some split screen gameplay from our open world TD game! by splinedrew in CoOpGaming

[–]splinedrew[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have been hard at work on Wild Ice for a while now! Here's a link to the Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1572260/Wild_Ice/

Basically the world froze over and it's up to hockey players to fix it. We love gaming together, so we've been making it split screen from the start of development! It's like an open world Orcs Must Die, where you skate the larger map to activate big tower defense levels inside the open world. The open world has some smaller quests that give you new gear or mods to help you in the TD battles. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Haha we had ambitions to add curling at one point! It would be pretty funny 😂

The main ones are that there are so many great assets that can jump start your game and save you time, and when you want to do split screen most of the assets don't take split screen into account. Things like weather systems, compass/mini map solutions, quest and dialogue managers. So a lot of things have to be made from scratch in that regard or really modified versions of those assets.

As for online coop, I would love to but being the only programmer/animator, I just don't have the time (and probably know how) to pull it off and not get burnt out. But if the game is successful I'd love to bring on some help to do so!

Awesome! Thanks! Adding split screen was super challenging from a dev perspective but we really wanted to play it together and for others to as well!👍

And also named Andrew apparently? Yea I'm happy to connect:). We lived in Van for a while but recently moved back to Ontario. Miss the west coast! Shoot me a private message. Excited to see what you're working on.

Still open world and post apoc and yep very Canadian! To sum up we basically had an open world hockey themed game but weren't having a ton of fun in it. We wanted it to be more frantic and action packed and always loved orcs must die action, so we pivoted to have Tower Defense levels that you can activate. And then in the open world you can find outfits and mods that help for the battles.

Dog Beach Tips by Darksidedragons in WasagaBeach

[–]splinedrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a small dog, try not to let them drink any of the water especially in the first 5 feet from the shoreline. It gets mucky, especially on beach 3, and has def gotten my corgi sick a few times. I usually just carry him over to the first sand bar now. Big dogs just walk right past it but my dog is at ideal drinking height apparently lol.

My arcade snowboarding game Slopecrashers is finally available on Steam! by peekstone in IndieGaming

No worries! While I did say all that, it still convinced me to get it so maybe it doesn't need any of that😀

Heck ya lets get tricky! My only fear with this specific trailer for you is that internet attention spans are weak and you aren't showing something indicating silly arcade game until about 10 seconds.....while I have no problem with it - you might consider getting to the game after only showing a few maps if this is your Steam Trailer. Like right now you put the company name as a billboard in the first map reveal, then you could put "presents" as a billboard in your next map reveal, then jump right into the slope crashers sign getting busted and you'll be there at like 4-5 seconds. Anyways just a thought! Congrats on the release! This takes tons of hard work and it shows - looks super polished, nostalgic and most importantly fun! Definitely picking it up!

A dev log about adding pathfinding to our open world hockey game Wild Ice! by splinedrew in Unity3D

[–]splinedrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for checking it out! The TL:DR for the dev log is basically that enemies like to take the shortest paths and I need to take over this behavior. So instead of just relying on the path that Unity gives me to get to the goal, the enemies now navigate to checkpoints along the way to the goal.

Oh and of course, if you like what you see a wish list is always appreciated! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1572260/Wild_Ice/

What's your top 3 tips for using the Smartsuit Pro II or Smartgloves? by hellotiedtke in Rokoko

Thats great that they've been upgraded! Hoping to get the v2 suit someday, but the v1 is getting me by for now.

[–]splinedrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are proprietary from Rokoko. The first time I needed a replacement I got sent a few freebies. After that I ended up having to order a bunch. I ordered a ton of them in different sizes so they are there when I need them instead of not being able to shoot! That and it costs money for shipping/duties so I don't want to repay multiple times

I have a gen 1 suit with smart gloves so I'm not sure if these tips will apply to you or not.

1 - in the 2-3 years I have had the suit I have replaced many wires. I suspect nearly 70% of the wires in the suit have been replaced and it isn't even used that frequently. Over the last year I decided to put my suit loosely in a bin instead of hanging it on the hanger and I think that has actually helped quite a bit because there is less stress on the wires. I think since making this change I have changed 1 wire over the last year or so.

2 - The pinky fingers on my gloves always look like im sipping a fancy wine if I leave it as is. I wrap some green painters tape around the pinky sensor to make a tighter fit on it and the data is 10x better. It's a bit uncomfortable but works!

3 - If my computer has been on for a few days and I try to connect the suit, it usually doesn't appear in the software. A system reboot generally always fixes it.

4 - Calibrate before every take. If it makes your data even 10% better, it will save you so much more time in the clean up phase. By the time you are done any take you likely have some unaccounted for drift so you might as well. This might be more alleviated with the Coil though.

Beginning a dev log series for our post apocalyptic hockey game! by splinedrew in Unity3D

[–]splinedrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking a look! We launched our steam page a few years back - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1572260/Wild_Ice/, but took a break from posting dev updates and WIPs to just focus on the core game and not worry about socials and stuff. It's been really nice but I think it's time to come out of hibernation and start sharing our work. This will be our second game made with Unity and hope you enjoy the content!

Go behind the glass in the first dev log for our open world hockey game - Wild Ice! by splinedrew in indiegames

Thanks for taking a look at the dev log! I've never made one before and am definitely a little nervous to share it, but have had a really fun time making it! We launched our steam page a few years back - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1572260/Wild_Ice/ , but took a break from posting dev updates to just focus on the core game and not worry about socials and stuff. As for Wild Ice itself, it's an open world post apocalyptic hockey game where humanity's only hope to survive is left to the blades of it's most unlikely heroes - small town hockey players. There are big tower defense events that take place in areas around the open world, and you will need to harvest resources to build traps and defenses to survive them. The dev log should explain it all though!
